** NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED **

July 27th, 1991. On this day, undefeated Michael "Double M" Moorer takes on “The Destroyer” Alex Stewart in an exciting albeit underrated Heavyweight fight. Both fighters have a 100% KO win ratio going into the bout.

Prefight records; Moorer 24(24)-0, Stewart 27(27)-2.

In December 1988, Michael Moorer began his reign as the WBO World Light Heavyweight Champion with a TKO5 win over Ramzi Hassan.

Then in the span of 1 year, Moorer made 9 successful defenses of his WBO Crown with notable wins over Frankie Swindell, Jim MacDonald, Freddie Delgado & Leslie Stewart.

After a successful run at 175, Moorer moved up to 200 pounds in 1991. He won his first 2 fights in April and June of the same year, and his 3rd Heavyweight bout is slated to be his first real test at this weight class; against hard punching No. 5 World Heavyweight Contender, Alex Stewart.

At this juncture of Moorer’s career, there are questions as to whether or not he is able to be a legitimate contender in this weight class.

On the other hand, Alex Stewart has proved himself to be a legitimate contender as he has losses only against future Hall of Famers in Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. While Tyson easily demolished him, The Destroyer put up a valiant performance against Holyfield that earned him newfound respect among boxing fans while proving his legitimacy as a threat in the division despite suffering his first career loss.

In the opening round, both fighters trade leather and Moorer with a bleeding nose manage to gain the upper hand scoring 2 knockdowns to win the round.

After surviving the early Moorer thunder, Stewart hurt Moorer with a couple of hard right hands but Moorer did not go down and manages to shake it off.

Both men continue to exchange blows in the 3rd frame once again.

In the 4th stanza, the war continues. However, a pulverizing uppercut by Moorer wobbles Stewart badly followed by a barrage of power punches. Stewart hits the canvas for the 3rd time, and courageously make it to his feet but both his eyes are cut and bleeding badly

* Stewart’s left eye started bleeding in the 2nd round and it clearly affected his vision as he walked into the wrong corner as the round ended.

Referee Chris Wollesen waves off the fight as Stewart is in no position to carry on.
In May 1992, Michael Moorer faces hard hitting Smokin’ Bert Cooper with the vacant WBO World Heavyweight Championship on the line.

After a grueling 5 round slugfest, Moorer triumphs via TKO in what is often considered to be one of the greatest World Title Fights in the history of the sport. Double M also made history by becoming the 1st southpaw to become World Heavyweight Champion.

Interestingly, George Foreman is one of the commentators and he would face both fighters in the future; facing Alex Stewart in April 1992 and Michael Moorer in November 1994.

Hope you guys love this highlight of an underrated Heavyweight gem, and be sure to SUBSCRIBE for more!

Jeff, respect for you.
And god dammit, Moorer is so underrated as heavyweight warrior and champion.
He had such brutal slugfests against Cooper, Stewart, Holifield, Foreman.

I feel so bad for Alex Stewart. He was a great fighter but could never take it that extra step to be champion. Still, he fought his damn heart out and gave many champions their toughest fights so far.

Thank you for these quality uploads. I also appreciate that you just let us enjoy the original commentary.

For a small heavyweight, Moorer was a machine, seriously underrated. What a scrap. Absolute beast at light heavy as well

Micheal Moorers ability to generate torch into his punches is nothing less then amazing. A beautiful thing to watch.

Yeah Moorer had the lead in both hands. What a vicious uppercut that was that finished off Stewart who was a tough as they come. Great work Jeff.

Damn! That fight was savage. Ida called it after 2nd time Stewart went down. Then he started dishing some out. Wish ida seen this one in real time back in the day. Thanks for letting me see it now.

What a monster Moorer was. If he listened to Teddy Atlas advice then he would have beaten Foreman. He was too small to be at heavyweight anyways.

I never liked the way moorer moaned on about the foreman loss. He basically tried to say he should have won. 😂 you get 12 rounds to win the fight and if one punch ko’s you, you’ve lost!

Pre Prison MIKE TYSON was the only man that easily and quickly destroyed ALEX STEWART. .... HOLYFIELD, FOREMAN and MOORER all struggled badly to beat him

What a war between these two young (at the time) warriors. Interesting to note that old man George Foreman somehow managed to defeat both these fighters despite being beaten up by Moorer for 9 rounds and by Stewart for the full 10. Go figure!

Interesting Big George calling the fight as he would later Knockout Michael Moorer.

Moorer was a very fast and powerful albeit small heavyweight. I think he could of had more success if he'd kept his weight under control. Look how lean he was here and against Holyfield. After that his weight kept rising and rising, then his activity and speed kept dropping. He didn't have the discipline.

Jeepers man! That's what you call a slugfest, Moorer was a very skilled puncher. Had he not outgrown LH, he'd have been an ATG😉

People said Tyson fought bums like Alex Stewart because he blew him away. Yet Stewart gave the great Foreman the beatings of his life. How ironic lol

Moorer is usually relentlessly uninspiring. But he did show some guts here.
