Imagine repeatedly hearing the themes of both the protagonist and primary antagonist throughout the show only for a mix of both to start playing when their final confrontation begins. Then, when the conclusion is reached, the loser's theme fades out and only that of the winner remains.

Now I really want to watch a show that does that.

I like to think of this theme as OUR theme.
Instead of Light's or L's.
After all, its the Viewer who has seen both sides of the story, and learned from both characters.
We're a combination of both of their legacies.

Honestly taking it into eyes. Death Note never had a villain or a hero. Its purpose was to show that evil depends into the eyes of any individual. This makes it amazing.
