In which the rabbit causes all kinds of havoc and essentially steals the show.

This ended up being a wayyyy loooong review and I'm sorry!! So as you can tell there were various mixed feelings had about this book. I thought as a story it was lovely, but as a work of writing it fell a little short. Please don't hate me on that because I know this book is crazy popular with a lot of people!

Anyways feel free to fight me on any of my opinions in the comments and if you are interested in a more in depth discussion of themes / motifs / writing in the book I'll be uploading a discussion next week. :)

Aww Lola making an appearance!!
I think the color thing was a pretty big missed opportunity too, he could have done so much more with that.
The first time I read it I also thought it was really cool that it was from the perspective of an average citizen, especially with a father who was technically a member of the "bad guys" but also a pretty radical "good guy" at the same time. Because up until that point, reading books that were mainly just about the camps, and the terrible experiences of the people who were targeted, I didn't have a very big concept of the fact that there was a lot of social nuance, and I think that's a really important thing to understand. It's never just evil bad guys and cool heroes, it's normal every day people and their actions, small or otherwise that are so important and can make a difference, for good OR bad. I think understanding that would make people care more about making sure the attitudes they have are the right ones, instead of just thinking they can do what they want because they think politics doesn't have anything to do with them.

Really good review! I loved your discussion of the characterizations and foreshadowing with a hammer -- very well thought out! Your rabbit is adorable!

This is one of my favourite books! I loved your review on The Book Thief. So happy I found your channel. I'm a booktube newbie. Subscribing - 90% because you and your reading taste and 10% because of your hilarious rabbit. She's so beautiful!

Could u discuss books as Watership Down? Having your rabbit onscreen would be symbolic. Cute pet too. I'm a new subbie who suffers from long cold winters with excess snow--great for skiers. I just saw lists of great liveable cities & great cities to visit & hey your city sits high. I read TBT late in the double 00 years. Some in my reading group found the writing style rather atypical & slightly harder than a usual YA book. I wasn't keen on Death as narrator or the excessive foreshadowing, but I felt the strengths of the book transcended its shortcomings.

Your opening made me laugh so much lol If you ever see the cat in the background of my videos, its probably after I have fussed at her about getting too close to the tripod or otherwise just being annoying. Sometimes I have to lock her out of the room when I'm filming! And your bunny is adorable.
I have heard so many wonderful things about this book, but I'm not sure why I haven't read it. it is currently sitting on my shelf, and I just haven't.
Great video though, you made perfect sense.

I wish we were allowed rabbits up here :(
Foreshadowing is sadly such a staple in most writers processes, I feel that if skillfully done, you shouldn't know it even is foreshadowing until the point being nudged actually happens. I'm not a very big fan of the line "It was only a matter of time..." It's better saved for a vague synopsis in my opinion
Great video Jas

Ahahahaha if it makes you feel better, my dog is incapable of cuddling and wants outside every three minutes while I'm filming XD

I'm hoping to read this book this month and I'm interested to see how I feel about it compared to your thoughts =)

What is the name of yout rabbit? Such a cutie!

You are very good at reviewing books. I wasn't convinced on picking up The Book Thief but I do not think I will be reading it after this. I do not like foreshadowing, especially if it's that obvious.
