Audio Notched White Noise Sampler in the Treatment for Tinnitus: 1000 Hz to 10,000 Hz

There are many possible ways to treat tinnitus. Effective sound therapy like pink noise or white noise can significantly reduce the perceived loudness of tinnitus. Notched audio, however, is the next step beyond generic sound therapy and is tailored precisely to an individual's specific tinnitus frequency. Simply put, notched sound or audio therapy is one type of tinnitus treatment that can reduce the intensity or loudness of tinnitus by listening to special audio tracks on any device whether phone, car stereo, music player, etc.

The key change that must be made to the audio track, however, is that the specific tinnitus frequency that is experienced by a given individual must be completely removed from the audio track. By removing this specific sound frequency or "notching" the audio, the tinnitus itself then supplies the missing frequency sound in the audio track.

The theory goes that when an individual turns off the notched audio sound, the brain will hear an absence of sound (obviously)... but more importantly may ALSO turn off the tinnitus sound. In practice, the tinnitus sound does not turn off for most, but does reduce in many tinnitus sufferers.

For notched white noise higher than 10,000Hz, you can find here:

Example of different notch widths for notched white noise at 7000 Hz:

Treatment protocol:
The suggested treatment protocol if your tinnitus frequency is 8,000Hz or less is to listen to the notched sound for long periods of time, ~ 5 hours or more at a time. Notched music appears to work as well as notched white noise.

If tinnitus frequency is above 8,000Hz, listen to the notched white noise three times a day, 1 hour each time. Notched music does not appear to work well for tinnitus higher than 8,000Hz. Be aware, there is no research evidence that notched sound therapy works for tinnitus frequencies higher than 13,000Hz.

Sleeping with the notched white noise in either situation works well by additionally providing masking. Tinnitus relief with notched sound therapy usually takes weeks to months.

I am not sure how it affected other people but I only listened to this video for a couple of minutes and tinnitus reduced to an almost non-existent level. It really helped me. Thank you so much.

I have had tinnitus for 8 months and was driving me crazy, couldn’t sleep, became depressed etc. I started using bi modal stimulation, bio feed back, sound therapy such as this, taking magnesium and B complex and most importantly biking or brisk walking and my tinnitus level went down to 6 & sometimes 5 from 8 ( 10 being the highest). In the tinnitus world this type of decrease in volume is great- good luck to all, we are in this together. Stay strong

I got a tinnitus since im 13 and i got pretty much used to it. But recently since i got some inner inflammation around the ear area(sinusitis most likely) it got a bit more louder so i really thank to someone who made this because it literally makes it so quiet!!

I had tinnitus that was happening in one ear and then in another ear. After a few weeks, the tinnitus in one ear got completely well, and the tinnitus in another ear got much better after several weeks. What I'm trying to say is that after sometime, your tinnitus gets completely well, much better, better, or less bothersome. Please don't be anxious about it as much as possible.

thanks for the noise! 😀 Tinnitus can't be cured, but it can be less bothersome. I don't understand those comments, lol. It's most important to learn to ignore and not pay attention to it. The brain is inclined to amplify things you focus on, so the more you listen to your tinnitus, the louder it becomes. Some people have found relief by trying Gingko Biloba and zinc, but it didn't work for me. In my experience, not paying attention to it works best. Spending time in nature, especially by water, like the sea or rivers, can also be helpful. There is promising research underway, and hopefully, it will be available to everyone in the coming years.

I had tinnitus for a while, it is a horrible thing to have but I pray to God for healing to those suffering from it, a few suggestions though, getting your ears cleaned by an ent specialist or an audiologist may help, a change in diet, low carbs and low sugar, walking at least 20 minutes a day will definitely help, it may take a few weeks but eventually it goes away

I played this while watching a second waterfall video with the sound turned off. Also, worked on releasing muscle tension in my neck and it seemed to help.

This is like scratching an itch. Itch is a type of pain. It is the lowest pain on a perceivable pain scale. When you scratch an itch, you induce a bigger pain to cover up the lower pain. When you notch out frequencies of white noise, which is the full spectrum of noise, you can remove the specific frequency of the tinnitus. When you crank up the volume of the notched frequency white noise, this makes your brain notice all the other frequencies more except for the notched frequencies. Like scratching an itch, it feels good for the moment at least, but seems to come back after you finish.
