Many people say the first "COWBOYS" were Mexicans which is impossible since cowboys were around before the 18th century, you have to go beyond WIKI and GOOGLE when it comes to historical

The first Mexicans were black and the cowboys have been around longer than the Mexicans that we know of today.

Until the 16th century, there was no Mexico nor Mexicans. Mexicans are a by-product of the racial and cultural mixing of Asian-African Indians, White Spaniards and African Blacks. Following Columbus' so called "discovery of the Americas", Mexico, as a country, was originally called New Spain. In 1519, Hernando Cortes and more than 300 African Blacks set out to explore New Spain and Central America. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by Zambos, people of African-Indian mixtures, who treated Cortes like a god. As Cortes entered Tabasco, the Indian Aztec capital, he was given a Black female slave named Doria Marina. She was the stepchild of an aristocratic Spanish family, a princess who had been secretly sold into slavery. Doria Marina initially acted as Cortes' aide, interpreter and chief negotiator.

Doria and Cortes had a baby and that baby was born as the FIRST official Mexican! Cowboys who was in charge of herding the livestock, house boy, field boy, stable boy, under boy who was a personal servant during the civil war, these were many different assignments and also derogatory terms for black men. As early as the 1600's cowboys existed so you are correct when you say the first cowboys were Mexicans, but these aren't the Mexicans you think of today....

cowboy culture came from MEXICO, evolve from the vaquero culture from Spain, the way of riding, the horse saddle, boots, hats, bull riding, and the way they breed cows originated in Mexico, was adopted by white people when they migrated from US to Texas, then Texas become part of the US. I mean they can be cowboys of every race, don't make this a racial thing, its a cultural thing an its Mexican, in the south of Mexico you can find them as Rancheros witch translate as ranch men, and they use the big round hats those ones that people know ass "sombreros", and in the north you found them as "Vaqueros" wich means "cowboys" and we use the traditional cowboy hat. I know sometimes we are proud of our origins but don't try to change history to make everything about your race,

The term "cowboy" original meaning was meant as a derogatory word for the black men who herded cattle, the word "boy" was meant to belittle all blk men. Which gave rise to the word "cowboy" for these men
