There’s a deeply rich history of Black cowboys and cowgirls in the U.S. But, mainstream Western movies and series painted a different image. 30-year-old Caitlin Gooch has committed her life to teaching people about Black Americans' contribution to horse culture.

My daddy grew up in the 40s and 50s in Texas where his grandfather broke wild horses for a living. He was definitely a true Black cowboy. He wore a Stetson hat 🤣 I miss him.

Horses have been part of my life for over 50 years. My daughter was in the saddle in front of me asa she could hold her head. I believe working with horses is one of the single best confidence building activities for girls. Just learning to handle and relate to a sensitive being so much larger is empowering. Plus they often compete compete favorably especially in English riding where there is no gender separation between events
