I think you might be looking into it too hard. Roblox stands for robot blocks, meaning that (in my interpretation) the faces drawn on the robots you play as are probably just drawn on. I think Roblox had forgotten about that abbreviation with the introduction of rthro, though.

Fun Fact : The Lynn face is taken from a model pack in the unity store. So is the entire Lynn model and a couple more.

The faces of the Homestead winners are embedded in their characters' file/model as a base64 image. Back then, custom decals were stored in the decal instance itself and not as an asset in the CDN. you said it yourself in the video, the guy didnt use a 2007 client though, he simply downloaded the model's file, opened it in a text editor, copied the base64 into a decoder and turned it into an image lol

One thing that I think is important now at least is the animated faces because they still have the nice cartoony style but they aren't as you said "locked into one expression" or something like that.

In roblox studio i learned that avatars are made of plastic (thanks to rigs) so they are toys or robots.

I actually agree with all of this, they make the worst type of faces and right now they are making too much realistic faces for events and toys. I wish they started making more normal faces.

Interesting trivia, the face.png file was last modified October 5, 2005 as well as the default ROBLOX shirt texture.

9:22 The sarge extreme face was made by the people behind the 2012 april Fools hacking incident (during the incident). Roblox simply didn't remote the face. They just hid it by making it offsale, or just forgot about it, i dont really know. Other than that, the video is very good and well worked.
