Single Core CPU speed is still getting faster, but to do it they’re getting more expensive and the rate of improvement has slowed down substantially.

What I gathered from this is that it's better to make components smaller, therefor requiring less power, therefor allowing for more components while using the same amount of power from the last generation. As opposed to just running up the clock rate and using more power. Could be wrong though

If anyone can offer a simple answer I'd appreciate it. He says that Moore's Law is still alive meaning the number of transistors in a CPU is still doubling every X number of years. So why is it that the number of transistors is increasing exponentially but CPU clock speed is not?
