Jeju Air Update. Crash Caused By Birds.

The word is out that accident investigators in South Korea have found the remains of birds in both of the Boeing 737-800 engines following the fatal airline crash of Jeju Air flight 2216 at Muan International Airport. I review the tragic consequences as the birds disabled the engines resulting in a cascading failure of the electrical and hydraulic systems resulting in the deadliest air disaster in South Korean history.

Avoid red outlines on thumbnails. It indicates video was already seen as it fuses with YT interface.

Thanks for staying with this. It's sad how short the attention span is for events like this compared to the amount of time it takes to investigate them.
The suspected shoot down, that happened before this, was pushed off the airways by this event and has now pretty much disappeared.

I am absolutely stunned by this guy’s ability to articulate facts and context quickly, clearly, with zero filler. Every word had relevance and meaning, free of bias. Great job!

This is one of the best videos I've seen on this crash. Felt like I was reading the investigation report.

As a retired airline pilot having spent most of my career on the 747 and 777 my take is that it’s too bad the Boeing designers didn’t include a RAT in the 737 design. On the 777 a RAT would deploy after the loss of both engines providing essential electrical and hydraulic power. I hate to second guess the pilots actions in this accident, but from a 777 pilots perspective I always had a back up plan should I lose an engine on final approach: bug up the Vref speed +20, reduce the flaps, start the APU and land straight ahead.

Awesome description of systems affected and realistic scenario analysis...these pilots were faced with a sudden, multi system failure which would take almost perfect analysis and performance to recover once the go-around was initiated. Thank you for the analysis.

By far the best and most detailed analysis I have seen or heard.

As a former sailplane pilot, what I see in the sad crash video is a plane mostly gliding in both long and hot. I think the pilots over-compensated the needed speed and altitude for a dead-stick landing and couldn't use flaps to correct. Btw, I think two crew members did survive having been strapped into the tail section.

Building Muan International Airport next to a major bird migration and nesting site is insane. Building a concrete wall for the ILS was also insane especially when it was recognized as a danger. All of these issues were known, but ignored. Corruption is rampant in South Korea.

Wow. Your explanation was so easy to understand even the technical parts of it. Way better than the stuff on the regular news. Thx.

The technical info in this video, regarding the operation of the systems, it's the best I've seen. Thanks

Just watched this video, and I must commend you on your explanation. As a pilot and an aircraft mechanic I understood exactly what you explained. Well done.

Respect the way you refer to the families, relatives and friends of the victims. Also your reluctance to apportion blame to the pilots who had the misfortune to be flying this aircraft and suffering a bird strike which triggered the rapid series of catastrophic events causing so much loss of life. Respect to yo sir.

I enjoyed your video. I analyzed 2 reported videos at the time.

Why did they decide to go around in the first place... on the bird strike? Most pilots are saying they could have just kept coasting in to land as they were configured on the initial approach.

Great explanation! I’m glad someone waited till more information was available then to do what everyone else does and speculate!! These pilots were definitely overwhelmed at a very critical stage of flight.

The crash seems to have started with a bird strike, but that was only one slice of the swiss cheese. The pilots made a series of mistakes afterward that aligned all the holes in the cheese

wow. this is the latest first video that I watched that it said birds struck both of the engines. the explanation in the video, to me, made good sense. other people's analysis blamed the pilots based on the public data available at that time. this video explained a lot better why the pilots did what they did, from the circumstances that they were, and that they were not perfect decisions but that it is understandable why they made the decisions that they made. thank you for the video explanation, as of now.

those sorts of power grid resonances can happen on the electric grid on the ground too, it's rare but it can be quite a significant threat to grid stability

This is the best description of the double bird strike I have seen to date. Have other pilots like yourself commented on the possibility of an emergency water landing aka the "Sully Gambit"? I am fine if it was never an option, but I would like a professional to explain why.
