Answering Orthodoxy RELEASED!

What if there’s a better Christian religion than Catholicism? One that has true apostolic doctrines, a more beautiful and ancient liturgy, and freedom from all that “pope” baggage—and valid sacraments, too.

That’s what apologists for Eastern Orthodoxy are selling. In a time of uncertainty and confusion for many Catholics, Orthodox challenges to the Church’s history, teaching, worship, and authority structure have been drawing Catholics away in hope of greener pastures in the East.

But those thinking of jumping off the barque of Peter toward the siren song of Eastern Orthodoxy—and for Protestants who’d like Catholicism’s historical pedigree without all the mess—need to think twice. In Answering Orthodoxy, Michael Lofton (Reason & Theology Podcast) shows why, with a thorough and critical refutation of Orthodox attacks against the Church.

Formerly Eastern Orthodox himself, Lofton has the knowledge and experience to uncover the flaws in the most common anti-Catholic arguments from Orthodoxy’s top advocates. From intricate doctrinal debates to the historical flubs and foibles of the popes, right on down to the basic understandings (and misunderstandings) of the sacraments Catholics and Orthodox share but don’t always agree on, Answering Orthodoxy shows where Orthodox attacks go wrong. In so doing, he not only strengthens Catholic conviction in the truth of the Faith, but also shows the Orthodox that there’s not as much distance between them and the Church as they might think, and unity with Rome might be closer than ever.

Whether you’re frustrated with today’s Church and find yourself attracted to Orthodoxy’s antiquity, beauty, and religious rigor, or you’re just looking to learn the best Catholic responses to Orthodox arguments, Answering Orthodoxy will equip and edify you.

Are you tired of all the confusion in the Catholic Church? So was I! For this reason, I decided to intensely study the Catholic Magisterium in order to discern between what people say about the Catholic Church vs. what it actually says and teaches. If you are a confused Catholic, or are discerning becoming a Catholic, Reason & Theology offers you an in-depth examination of the situation in the Catholic Church that will help make sense of the confusion.

Erm sorry no, the Catholic Church just simply cannot compete with the spiritualism of orthodoxy. The RCC left me dry and wanting.

Some arguments Ik of against Eastern Orthodoxy:

1. Orthodox have a set of Councils, without knowing why these Councils are in the Orthodox list of Infallible Councils. Like Protestants with a fallible set of Infallible Books, Orthodox have a fallible set of Infallible Councils. This is because they cannot know which Councils are valid or not, without affirming Papal Primacy

2. If the Eastern Orthodox, say, had another Great Schism, where it’s hard to tell who’s correct, Orthodox could do three things:

1. Personal interpretation
Or Protestantism, leading to massive Schism and error

2. Trust their own Bishop
This leads to schism, and also then you are unsure who is correct.

3. The Catholic answer: The Papacy

The Papacy acts as sort of an Anchor in Schism. You want to know which side of the Church is correct? Well, the Church of Rome, the Papacy, is protected from error, so in times of Schism, trust the Papacy. Orthodox just don’t have something like this, leading to more Schism. In fact, even smaller problems where it more easy to tell who is right still causes schism, because in Catholicism, whoever is in rejection of Rome is in error, but in Orthodoxy, it could be that one or the other side is in error. Furthermore, Orthodoxy, because it doesn’t have One specific See over the entire world, has the problem of creating nationalistic Churches, who can Schism, like with the Russia/Ukraine Schism for example. It seems to be that Orthodoxy is more divisive.

3. Doctrinal Development is clearly a thing, of it weren’t, then we wouldn’t have the Councils, or pray to the Saints, like we see in the early Church.

4. Councils are one of the main venues through which the Church’s Magisterium works. Which the Orthodox can’t hold without the Pope, leading them to not hold a Council in centuries. They also don’t have a Pope to speak infallibly, and beyond that, even have a harder time agreeing without a Pope and centrality, so their doctrine and Magisterium is often very stagnated.

5. There are times when the Eastern Orthodox historically accepted Papal Primacy and other Catholic doctrines, and then went back on it.

6. Papal Primacy is taught by the Bible and Church Fathers. Beyond this, “first among equals”, seems to be a concept that would be unfamiliar to Jews and Christians in the first century.

7. Eastern Orthodox is in general, a smaller Church, with a less huge impact on the world. On top of this, like when the Jews and Samaritans argued, it makes sense God gives the people with the thing in question, (I.E Temple or Papacy), the correct beliefs. So, it makes more sense that the Catholics are right about Papal Primacy.

In India first church was established in CE 52. There were 7 churches. They were following syriac liturgy. In 15th century, the Portuguese, Dutch etc occupied certain parts of India. That time Christianity was practiced in South India mosty the state of Kerala. The catholics came and they destroyed many things of this native Christians and made them to follow catholic rites. But they held on to their faith finally after few decades they were allowed practice what they believed. Only after invasion of foreigners new new faith and churches started. Now the Roman catholic also fighting each other. A group Syromalabar wanted to follow many customs Easter Orthodox church. In ten commandments God doesn't want make images of anything and worship. But catholic churches it's prevalent. Jesus clearly told that.only in the second coming the people will be judged. Then why we have so many saints. I as Christian believe that pray to our father in heaven and redemption though Jesus

So looking forward to reading your new book! And Btw, do you think you can make a video addressing the Alexandria document? I keep on hearing repeatedly from the Orthobros that the Alexandria document conceded it’s claims about Vatican 1 and thus it refutes Catholicism. But if you already addressed this in your book no need to respond! 😇🙏
