It's inconceivable to think of a better fantasy movie than Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride, based on the book by famed Hollywood screenwriter William Goldman. Thus, we had to cover it here on Fantasizing About Fantasy Films. Robin Wright stars as the beautiful young Buttercup, whose one true love, Wesley (Cary Elwes), is presumed dead but comes back to rescue her from a forced marriage under his new identity, the Dread Pirate Roberts. He's befriended by a vengeful swordsman, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) and a friendly giant (Andre the Giant). They help him defeat the evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon) and his diabolical aide, Count Tyrone Rugen (Christopher Guest).

Join us as we examine what makes this such a timeless tale for all!

It also contains a lot of good advice. Based off this film, I've always taken great pains to never get involved in a land war in Asia 😂

I can't believe there was actual talk in Hollywood in wanting to remake this movie. Hollywood should look at some movies and realize if it's not broke, don't fix it

I just want to say thank you to all the viewers who are saying such kind words and sharing what this movie meant to them. That's the goal with this series and this episode and the film mean a lot to me and to my fantastic editor Bill who helps bring these to life. Give Bill some love, he makes magic happen. And drops Pennywise creepily into an episode and it makes sense.

One of my favourite movies of all time. Every time Peter Falk says "As you wish" my allergies seem to swell my eyes and they get watery. I should maybe go see Miracle Max about that...

Great job with this video. You did honour to the movie.

My then bride and I themed our wedding on the princess bride. We had everyone playing along. It was wonderful 👍🏻

Always re-watchable. Always welcome. A great movie that deserves the praise it receives. We saw it on its original release, and were entranced. Bought the VHS as soon as it came out. Now have it on Blu-Ray. To not like this film is- impossible.

When The Princess Bride was first in theaters I took my high school sweetheart to see it. We were both in our senior year. I was looking forward to a serious action movie and hadn't heard it was a comedy, so part way through the movie I was not enjoying it at all. About the time Westley rolls down the hill shouting "as you wish" and Buttercup throws herself after him, I'd had enough. I yell aloud in the theater "Oh, come on! This is ridiculous!" My girlfriend shushed me and whispered in my ear "I think this movie is a comedy." I kept quiet after that. It took a second viewing before I recognized TPB for the genius it is.

We eventually got married and the film became a family favorite, but she never let me live down my outburst in the theater. She told the story to all three of my children and anyone else who would listen. My children learned to love the movie as much as we did, and we shared many a repeat viewing during the 30 years we were together. Our last viewings was a movie in the park event where we sat on a blanket under the stars and enjoyed The Princess Bride together one last time. She died of cancer less than a year later.

I know she is waiting for me and I'll see her again because "Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for awhile."

It is inconceivable that I would ever watch a remake.

5:40 A broken toe during filming? Does that mean Westley was the original Aragorn?

My greatest fear is someday Hollyweird will try to remake this movie. They never get that you should leave perfect movies alone, I.E pointbreak. I have loved this movie since I first saw all those years ago.

Without trying to be cute, this review is as close to perfect in the JoBlo Fantasy movie reviews as I've seen yet. Very strong affection for the source material comes through with delight without the fawning. The trivia was actually some I hadn't seen repeated elsewhere. Excellent.

That part about Mandy Patinkin and losing his father to cancer got me choked up. I lost my father nearly 12 years ago to Leukemia and not a day goes by that still don't think about him or have conversations to myself with him. This was one of his favorite movies too.
