I took Discrete Math as a computer science (COMP 231) course, as well, as professor told me to try to get a Minor in Computer Science. This was back in 1991.

I’m currently in Chapter 4 on Proofs. I manage to get the 4th edition for a steal. Amazing book. I was struggling with Boolean Algebra, but after working through Chapter 2 section 5 (2.5), it came so easy.

I bought the book today. Thank you so much for your recommendations! 💖

I bought this book a while back on your recommendation, I made it through chapter 1 and then I started setting up Anki cards to help. Chapter 2 coming up!

This is a great book, but I never referenced it when I took discrete math. The challenge in taking this course in college is that professors teach it in many different ways. My professor only gave us proofs for the tests, which was extremely difficult to learn and grasp for me. Therefore, I referenced proof specific books like “How to Prove It, ” and “The Book of Proof.”

ive read a little of this book and its so good. Next semester of college( my major is physics), i think i will stop or take less classes for explore more math contents(and this is one of the books that i will study) and review some physics stuff because i dont have much time, my college is far away from my house so i spend a good amount of time just for go and come back.

sorry about my english 😅 if have many mistakes, im trying to improve

This is a fantastic textbook. I took Discrete math and we used this book. I couldn't afford the hard cover, so I bought the international version for a lot cheaper. First few chapters on Logic and Set theory is fantastic!

I own a copy as well but I've seen stopped reading it since I got the Book of Proof book.

I never understood why this isn't a required course for math majors, given that proving is our bread and butter. I could never really write or even follow proofs until I took a discrete math course.

I am
Using it actually to prepare myself for my It Studies it is really good

Let me just say, I took Discrete Math b/c "f*** **, I like math, let's do it" and it's my hands down, all-time favorite class. It teaches you the math that you've always wanted to know. I had no idea what I was walking into. I just got drunk and dove in there (DISCLAIMER: If you drive sober to class you might suffer DT(withdrawl, look it up) and then miss half the classes like I did, to avoid drinking and driving. Pretty much basically by FAFSA law if you miss over 50% of class the usual school rule is they have to drop you a letter grade. Fun Fact: Had I gone to class, I no doubt would've earned an 'A' but I didn't (shwasted, bro) so I earned a 'B' and then received a 'C' because I didn't show up.) AND GUESS WHAT!?!? That class answered all of those strange math questions I accumulated over a lifetime. What is math maturity? My answer is this: In calc 1, you have to start thinking for yourself...only a little. In Linear Algebra, you have to start thinking for yourself for real, the first time. Thinking for yourself in math is strange but Discrete Math is like your high school sweetheart, it should be taken before black-out drunk college Linear Algebra . Everyone should take this but it can require math maturity. For this reason, some schools require Calc 1 as a pre-req.
*EDIT: I was trying to explain how easy it is. "Math maturity" is involved, and I don't know how to explain it. This anecodotal story might explain it the difficulty level.

this book is not easy! i read through almost half of the 4th edition of this book, in the end I got discouraged. It is great, but it is too abstract in my opinion, it lacks simple examples and diagrams. I was impressed by how logical it is, but you need a lot of brain power to understand it... great book, I hope to someday go back and give it another try, but if you are looking for a basic discrete math book, this might be too technical..

When are you going to make a discrete math course for comp sci ?

This vid is about the 2nd edition, but I have the 3rd edition (along with its instructor's manual). Against complaints about the 3rd edition vs the 2nd edition? And I also have the 4th edition. Is the 2nd edition "better" than the two newer editions?

As a self-taught programmer (the nerd version of a amateur woodworker), I knew I'd need to study some discrete math along with other math subjects. I have five other discrete math books along with this one, and I do find it the "easiest" of them, although some subjects Epp doesn't go so deeply as the others, but Epp's book has definitely taught me a lot I didn't know.

I'm around page 90 something, started college algebra along with it. But i'm think when i finish the P chapters of Blitzer i'll stick wick Epp till the end.

Hello Sir you have a great channel, thanks. I try to understand this book in this video. Which Math I need to understand this book?. I forget the basic algebra and i am very bad in Math, I am 57 years old from Puerto Rico. Thanks
