The Oxford Electric Bell is not a 'mystery'. There is no aspect of it that is not completely understood by science. You have a dry pile battery that induce electrostatic charges in the bells, causing one to attract the clapper, and the other to repel it. The system slowly loses energy in the form of heat (albeit, very small quantities of it) and it is known that the batteries will eventually simply run out. There is no secret.

It's just a very interesting historic artifact from the world of science past, and nobody wants to take it apart because there is nothing valuable to 'discover'. Why ruin a priceless historical artifact from the 1800s just because the internet does not understand how it works? Scientists understand exactly how it works and they have for a very long time.

Some people in the comments actually believe this device holds the secret to provide the human race with free, clean It scares me that the public education system in America provides people with such a poor 'understanding' of science that beliefs such as this are actually still surprisingly common.

No idea what kind of metal it was until advanced metallurgical study was done. No one stuck a magnet to it? That would have told you it at least contained iron.

ill make a large aluminum cube for no reason at all, and put it in the mountains...

My favorite would be the Oxford Electric Bell because if it were reversed engineered, then it would help us to understand how to make better batteries for renewable energy.

So they have a battery that works forever, but they don’t want to examin it? It could be the greatest discovery ever.

Wow! I didn't know Zak, from Ghost Adventures! Had gotten that box. From what I understand, he's still not been able to open the museum yet cause of the place being haunted. And hasn't gotten rid of what's in the place. Thanks for sharing! 😉 ❤.

The iron pillar is an easy one. It’s just highly refined iron. They used electricity to burn out all the impurities.

The Iron Pillar in Delhi is much taller and bigger and it is superbly polished. Does not rust or corrode. More than 2000 years old.

I wonder. Could the biology in the meteorite also be, because its origin is Earth? Could it have been shot into space from a gigantic early vulcano around the time of the 1st life forms? And then slowly found it's way back to earth?
