This Shalimar, FL house remodel has gone through so many changes, but it will all be worth it! The major change is that we lifted the roof 2 feet!

I cannot believe 8 ft high ceiling is still the standard in this modern age where people are way taller than let's say 50 years ago. I'm glad that you as a builder has taken that into consideration. I'm 6'3 and 8ft ceiling feels like being in a boat.

How much does it cost extra, percentage-wise for an additional row of blocks to raise the ceiling by 1 ft?

JP, did you have to add new plywood sheathing to the outside for shear strength? If not, how was the pony wall tied into the original wall so as to not create a hinge? I see some metal brackets there... perhaps that's the reason?

I'm asking because I currently live in a home w/ 7' 10" ceilings and am VERY interested in potentially raising my roof.

I have a detached 2 car garage I want to convert to have a second story for storage/workshop. would it be cheaper to build the whole thing brand new or can it be converted for less?
