Contra has her issues, but I can't really disagree with her on this.

It seems to me that whenever someone cites history in favor of their ideology the first thing to do is factcheck them. In the case of that anti-election tweet, half my rights as a citizen of the US probably came from the bill of rights, which was a result of liberalism. Some of it then likely came from leftist reform movements, but then a lot of the rest came from the Warren court and its influence on the interpretation of the bill of rights.

I kinda got shunted into Marxist-Leninist spaces soon after I began exploring leftism (was raised far right), and then started expanding my views when I discovered Anark and Vaush, and then even Destiny. I’m trying to learn more about social democracy right now, and I appreciate the perspective I’m getting from your videos! I’m starting to see the differences between all these centrist and leftist ideologies and it’s been a wonderful journey.

I will say that if the election results both in the US and especially over the last couple of years in Europe have not turned you into an anti-electoral type then I don't know what will.

Now more than ever my faith in democracy is very low.

I find the arguments of electoral vs non, so useless. There's never been a plot of land that hasn't been usurped by some controlling power or another. The vacuum almost always demands a leader of some ilk. It's obvious leftist don't like our options, but we should be focusing in on what's causing only two options to dominate our election for president. There's obviously a pool of money and power being thrown at our leadership. Instead of leaders, we have control. We should be focusing on changing the system, right down to removing the electoral college and instituting rank choice voting, across all states. No more, winner takes the entire state. Hopefully, right down to how the parties decide via delegates, who gets to enter the primaries and run for president, and a removal of major funding for campaigns, to be replaced with a government sponsored media coverage that is supported by the parties, for the people.

She missed on this one. First, when there is real social pressure - like we saw in the 1950s and 1960s - it doesn't matter which party is in power. For example, the Republicans introduced civil rights legislation in the 1950s under pressure from social movements and international criticism. Second, harm reduction in the face of "lesser evil" elections cannot be a permanent strategy. If it does become a permanent strategy, as in the US elections, it becomes indistinguishable from harm *assurance*. Eventually, you have to boycott.

actually i think posting a picture of someone next to hillary clinton is a very strong argument, but we can debate that

So, I have no idea for the US but I didn't vote for labour in the UK this time around. I did vote green, not with the target of them winning but with the thought that if it split their vote share enough they would adopt green policies to try and get those voters back. I think that is a fairly strong reason to not vote for major parties.

You should vote but voter shaming does not work, we learned that from Hillary.
