QUICK BONUS FACT: Victorian prisons used two distinct systems to enforce discipline. The "Separate System" isolated prisoners in solitary confinement to force reflection and repentance. Meanwhile, the "Silent System" allowed prisoners to work together but required complete silence, with severe punishment for any conversation. Both methods were meant to reform criminals, but they often caused lasting psychological damage instead.

The sad thing is even in this day and age children are put in overcrowded prisons in certain parts of this world some waiting months or years to have their cases being heard some for things they didn't do.
