RTX 4090 Benchmarked With Resizable Bar and Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling - 12 Games Tested

I remember when technologies such as resizable bar and hardware accelerated GPU scheduling were launched to the public, there was quite a bit of hype surrounding them, as if to suggest they would significantly improve gaming performance. Last year I tested these features with my RTX 3090 and found that they barely improved performance and that was that. However, with the release of the RTX 4090 last month, and this GPU being based on an all-new architecture along with new drivers & game updates, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit this topic again. Needless to say it seems like things haven’t changed at all.

The improvements in 1% lows on a few of those games were surprising. Even if the avg framerate uplift is negligible, smoothing out those brief, intermittent fps slogs will tangibly improve the way a game feels to play. Good info. Ty for posting.

Thanks for doing something others have not yet... definitely answered some questions we were interested in.

Resizable bar only works on a handful of games by default. You have to use Nvidia inspector to globally force it.

A warning to the Pimax 8KX users. Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling can introduce issues in some VR games, especially if you are using an RTX 3000 series graphics card. These issues may also happen with the RTX 4090, so I would suggest that you tried this feature on and off and see what's the best option. If you are a Vorpx and Pimax 8KX user, probably the best option is the hardware accelerated GPU scheduling to be off, even with the RTX 4090. At least that was I found when playing Skyrim LE in VR with the Vorpx.

Gear 5 gets a nice boost in fps and 1% lows compared to stock. I'd take any boost even if it gives me 2% better performance. Would've liked to have seen 1440p results too

I know this is a year old but I think HAGS has more impact on windows 11. It either works better or worse depending on how windows update feels. It has been broken and fixed before.

Intel depends on it, so I'd say it's not the fault of games, it's more due to an efficiency on NVIDIA driver/architecture that doesn't need this.

It would be nice if you also compared Power usage. In Spider Man Remastered, I noticed power draw was about +100w with HAGS enabled vs disabled. Peformance also improved a bit but I prefer lesser power draw vs 1-2 fps more. I play 4k/60fps Vsync on 55" screen.

Have you seen Debauer Efficiency test with 13900K? Pretty Impressive stuff I can't lie.

I am curious about temp. Did it decrease a little at all with rebar?

Is it true that resizable bar can cause more stutters on higher end cards with 24gbs of ram?

I'm curious to see how the 7900XTX does with this stuff.

I'd suggest against enabling Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in the Windows Graphics Settings. It keeps the gpu at 99% even when not gaming. On Windows 10 anyway so I dont know if its a bug or anything but I have it disabled. I've only had to enable it when trying DLSS 3 Frame Generation. It doesn't work if GPU Scheduling is off.

Wasn't it tested that DDR4 gives less fps than DDR5 with meaningful margin? asking because you have used it

this test needs to be run during a cpu limited run. downgrade the cpu and run the test. nvidia has a cpu overhead and it be cool to find out if this solves it.

Is the world so blind

Resizable bar with a 4000 series card

Furthermore it does not work with any other game that's not in the resizable bar list

If you own a 4000 series card it is best to turn it off

Even though it is on in the bios by default
