Here's a much more stringent and in-depth video I found from another Soulsborne creator, Dangitjm. Worth it if you're somewhat new to the game and confused on how builds work in Bloodborne.

VERY IMPORTANT: Even if you have killed an enemy, smacking them a few times after and as they die will still trigger Rally and give you back health. So do that, it will save you more blood vials than you know.

"You bought this game to be challenged"

Me *buying this game having no idea of its difficulty*: Looks cool 😊

Bonus tip: When you play this game, just accept the fact that you’re going to die. It’s okay to get mad, but just accept the deaths and keep going, and don’t be afraid to take the game in small doses if you get frustrated. Made the game more enjoyable for me

When fighting the Blood-Starved Beast, always, always, ALWAYS dodge left.

Armor means practically nothing in this game. Dont overthink the clothing you are wearing. If you like it, wear it. It's all about looking good at the end of it. Fashion Souls baby.

"Dying is your fault" throwback to that time i glitched through the floor and told myself:"It's my fault, i should've known better, I'm playing bloodborne goddamnit"

I love how bold this game is. No matter how many times you die, the game won’t falter it’s difficulty.
You either adapt to the challenge and win, or you quit. End of story.

My tip:

Dont be afraid to take a break. If you are getting frustrated and not having any fun at all, stop. Come back to it later, whether that's the same day, later that week, or even months later.

Personally, my first block was Gascoigne. I wasn't having fun, stopped for a couple months, then came back and made some progress. Next the Blood Starved Beast was another wall. Shorter break this time, only a month or so, then when I came back it finally clicked. I've loved this game ever since.

Just popping in to say that the "Dodging into the weapon hand" tip was SUPER useful. Makes the boss fights so much easier (so far...) and fun for that matter.

New player here! I got stuck on Father Gascoigne for so long and all my attempts at parrying that failed left me out of bullets so rather than farming I had the genius realization that the transformed state of the hunter axe could stagger him briefly with an L2 followed by an R1 and immediate dodge forward to avoid his guaranteed blunderbuss counter

Made fighting him an absolute joke and the hours I spent before became almost comical

Also It's a shame that you can't do that in Gothic series

Tip: in lower levels, Slow Poison is not slow. If you find yourself in an area with Poison of any strength, keep Antidotes on your tool bar.

Tip: some large bosses like cleric beast, Amelia, Laurence, and Ludwig are easier to fight unlocked on if you can control the camera. The extra movement and I frames for the rolling animation helps.

I'm very late to this, but I'd recommend fighting through the Yharnam street bit right at the start a few times. I did it as a beginner because I was too scared to go further without learning the game mechanics at least a little. You end up with a fair amount of bullets and blood vials which are super useful early game (mainly bullets though I'd say) and you get confident enough to face other enemies. ❤

Having a torch as a backup extra hand weapon can be surprisingly useful, you can quickly create light in dark areas with no resources, certain enemies flinch from the open flame in your hand, and some can be grossly affected by fire.

One tip I like to give new people is when you encounter a new enemy don’t attack them. Just dodge, dodge until you learn all their different attacks. Some enemies don’t attack in a timed rhythm and going in for an attack when you think they’re done attacking can hurt you very quickly
