It probably is a copyright issue, but I'm pretty sure Sakurai/Nintendo themselves didn't bother with it because Sakurai stated that he tries to avoid adding anything outside of gaming into Smash Bros. Disney logos and characters are included.
Stuff from Advent Children would be fine because it serves as a canonical sequel to Final Fantasy 7.

It’s weird that Disney considers sora’s Mickey keychain different from any other version of Mickey as I remember hearing square were allowed to add Mickey to sora’s keyblade in kh1 before even letting mickey actually appear in the game

I think the reason they decided to exclude Disney stuff in Smash is more Sakurai’s decision then Disney’s. I believe Sakurai had stated, years ago, that the only things that will be included in Smash are things that originated from a video game, which is why Sora and all the other KH original characters and elements were allowed it. Im sure the main reason the Mickey keychain was kept in is because it’s part of the Keyblade, and the Keyblade originated from Kingdom Hearts. I could be wrong, and maybe Disney did in fact want only KH content in Smash, but I think it was Sakurai’s call to not included Disney characters since they originated from movies and not a video game.

I remember when smash started adding characters I always said that I wanted sora in smash and I my friends would literally call me stupid for even considering he would be in smash especially when the last character was being announced. Needless to say I rub it in their face everytime we play.

I like to think that Sora's background is at the beginning of the first Kingdom Hearts game where the most important things to him was getting off the island with Riku & Kairi & the star fruit is also important to him since he got one from Kairi.

Im still shocked till this day that they were able to keep the Mickey logo on there. I really thought that if they were going to include Sora they'll replace the Mickey logo with the Smash Ball but Disney let them use it and it's so cool

That actually makes sense because this could’ve caused a huge lawsuit. It also seems like this could’ve been the closest crossover you couldn’t get where you go from Nintendo Mario to Disney’s Mickey Mouse. Talk about the biggest crossover in all of media.

The title says it was ruined but I like how the stage doesn’t have the Disney trio in a way. It’s wonky looking with them on it’ll the stained glass but it gives more individuality in a weird way.
