As a Turk, I prefer flying carpets rather than camels since they're way faster.

The most confusing information for foreigners:

Turkey is not an Arab country. Turkey is a Turkic country like Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. And we can't speak Arabic, we speak Turkish, a Turkic language.

We certainly do not ride camels. In fact, 90% of Turkish people have never even seen a camel in their life. I am 24 years old and I have been living in Turkey since I was born and I have never seen a camel in my life. Also, there is no desert in Turkey. 😂

I probably knew 16 out of the 20, however I just returned from a trip to Turkey a couple of weeks ago. Turkey exceeded my expectations- one of the most interesting places I've travelled to!

One of my favorite things to do in Turkey is to drink Turkish tea-love the little glasses and how the tea pot is made so you can decide just how strong you want it! I also think that the Americans ruined Turkish delight by making it into jellybeans-nothing like the real thing! Can't wait til I can return to Turkey; love your country!

People who say "Turks ride camels" are absolutely illiterate or they are trying to offend us Turks. How can you not know this? Are you living in a cage? If yes, my apologies.

One unbelievable fact about turkey: if you count ottomans as turkey, they are the second country to legalize homosexuality in the world in mid 19th century after france. It was not penalized if you have a document stating your sexuality, and state ensured your safety by law in urban areas.

The story about turkey’s name (the bird) coming from the country’s name, despite the fact that it wasn’t actually Turkish, reminds me that in Italian we call maize “granturco” (Turkish wheat) because when it arrived from the Americas it was common to call “Turkish” all foreign goods.

Maybe one additional fact about Turkeye: Many countries from far away like USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Canada etc. etc. travelled with their armed forces to the backyard of Turkey and conducted direct or indirect wars in Syria, Irak or Afganistan and flooded Turkey with actually more than 5, 2 Million of war-refugees. All These war-initiator countries deny to receive any kind of refugees and leave Turkey alone with this huge problem. Even UNHCR is quiet and plays the "Three Monkeys". What a unbeliable great shame on the world-community!
