Thanks Colin, handy tips. I thought this might be a good tip. Yesterday I had to cut some sheet stainless steel sheet with a jigsaw. It's tough stuff and I soon wore out the expensive blades. Thing is they just wear in that one spot leaving much of the blade unused. I had got to a point where I had one cut left and all the blades had had it. I took a 1/2" thick piece of wood and fitted it to the jigsaw foot thereby raising it so that a fresh section of the blade was lined up with the sheet stainless. It got the job done and saved me a trip to town and having to pay out for another pack of blades. Cheers

Hey Colin, on your construction helper, the first tip, you can also leave a gap between the 2x4's before screwing on the plywood square, so as to be able to get at the ends of the pieces you're joining, and put a screw through one into the other. Another idea would be to drill oversized holes in the jig, so as to be able to get your screws into the pieces to be joined.

Hey Colin ... heres an idea for combining 2 of the tips... stick a magnet on the bubble & a washer on the drill, this means you'll be able to remove the bubble when you are doing rough work & don't want to accidentally damage it !!

Hello Colin! Thank You and PLEASE pass along my gratitude to Paul for the great suggestion on magnetic vise jaws! I just bought a great vise from Harbor Freight and the jaws are definitely too grippy for wood. This will make things much easier. The other day, I was fumbling with a project and trying to keep some wood knobs protected while pressing wood nuts into them. I just ordered the magnets off of eBay. As always, I'm one of your Number One fans! Thank You Sir!

Thanks Colin, few things also about the type of magnets, some round magnets have hole in the middle that can be screwed but be careful not to crack them, and you can also tape the magnet with Gorilla tape so they dont move and if they crack they stay in-place also

Colin, to keep my chuck key available at the drill press I attach the key to a piece of sash chain about as long as the column of my benchtop drill press. Next drill a 3/8 to 1/2 inch hole in the column about 3/4 inches down from the drill head. Thread on a number of 1/4 inch nuts sufficient to lift the chuck key automatically once the nuts have been secured at the end of the chain (I spread the terminal link of the chain to keep nuts from falling off) and inserted inside the column. The chuck key should slither up the side of the column as soon as you let go of it (or on occasion you need to shake the chain to get it started). The key remains with the drill press so it's not lost. The chain is of sufficient length to reach the chuck along the entire length of the column (for a bench drill) For floor mounted drill presses the same process can be used since extremely few woodworkers use their drill press nearer the floor than their workbench top.

Paused the video in the middle to go out and spray paint my drill press chuck key yellow. Thanks for reminding me!

My pick of the bunch has to be the bubble level on the hand drill. Genius! Thank you to the subscriber who submitted the idea and thanks to you Colin for sharing with us all 👍😎🇦🇺

You can also look for drills with built in levels the next time you buy one. Brilliant idea. I have one with a built in led light that shines on the work area when you pull the trigger too. Manufacturers should try to incorporate smart ideas like these when they design tools! It often costs next to nothing but can be really handy

I have been making beehives for years using yellow carpenter’s glue. I found the most efficient way to apply glue is using a small paint roller. I keep the glue in a Tupperware type container that sits in a tilted box to keep the glue in a puddle down on one end. I cut a slot in the removable top to allow the handle to stick out. The top snaps on when not in use to keep the glue fresh. I can load the roller with just the right amount of glue by running it over the tilted surface until it is the right consistency. The glue is applied quickly and evenly to the work and the roller remains wet in the Tupperware reservoir without sitting in the puddle. Glue will last several days before needing to be changed for fresh glue.

I'm in IT and never new there were magnets I could use in the old hard drives I destroy. Thanks for that tip!

Great tips. I just attached a magnet to the push stick for my table saw. I swear that thing has legs and likes to move all around the shop. Now I can attach it to the metal stand.

Regarding the drill press key, I prefer to tape it to the power chord. That way I always remember to unplug the machine before inserting the key into the chuck.
