OKAY, EPIPHONE…

Guitar of the Day! Adam Jones' 1979 Les Paul Custom is the second "Inspired by Gibson Custom" signature after Kirk Hammett's "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard. $1499 is expensive for Epiphone, but these are supposed to be higher-tier than the "Inspired by Gibson" line with proper Custom Shop specs.

Forgot to mention the IGC versions also come with Switchcraft for the toggle and output jack!

$1499 definitely isn't cheap for an Epi, but it's pretty spec accurate to the underrepresented Norlin-era with that 3-piece maple neck and actual mother of pearl inlays for way less than a Gibson Custom. What do we think? 🤔

They need to do a Randy rhoads version.

Great, the wierd headstocks were always my main argument against an epi.

So Epiphone are making guitars in what used to be Gibson USA price points? Interesting

"Chinese Guitars for $1500" should only be an obscure Jeopardy question

Mine just got delivered today - 100% worth the money. Gibson should be ashamed. The QC on mine is fantastic. Seriously I am massively impressed.

One spec that should also not be overlooked is a long neck tenon on this model. This thing is spec loaded with a cool hard case for a (unfortunately) current market fair price. I couldn't resist as I feel this is the closest I'll get to owning a 70's Les Paul Custom (I already own an '89 LPC and current day Axcess LPC).

Hopefully they drop a regular while custom with the MOP inlays and open book headstock. I love white LPCs but don't like the way nitro yellows so a poly custom for 1/4 the price of the Gibson version would be awesome.

Been playing 14 years now
I bought an epiphone "norm burst" Joe bonnamasa Les Paul on accident thinking i placed the order for the 1959 Epiphone les paul reissue. I used to have a $500 sunburst standard les paul from around 2010 but i sold it cause i was getting more into strats at the time. It was a great guitar and it made me appreciate the Les Paul shape but the fretboard wood or inlays on mine had a weird plasticky friction feel that made me feel like i was playing a "cheaper" version as compared to a cheap Gibson. It may have just been my copy. So in 2020 when i saw the 1959's epi's coming out, i said, i have to get that!
I get the Joe bonamassa one realizing i ordered the wrong thing but i gave it a shot and for $800 with a hard case included i completely forgot about the 1959 reissue. It was like a day and night difference from my 2010 $500 epiphone from 10 years ago. Not only was i mind blown, but with my interest peaked, i had to check out the rest of the lineup to compare with my JB. I managed to try out the 50's and 60's Epiphone les pauls from 2020 and the whole lineup has dramatically increased in quality/playability. Whoever made my JB les paul took some serious pride in their work. I wasn't exactly into the color at first but it's grown on me. These new modern day epiphone les pauls are really giving Gibson a run for their money!

I'm so glad that Gibson FINALLY ddecided to put the "open book" style headstock on the Epiphones. They should have done this years ago.

A john sykes epiphone custom with dirty fingers would be nice

I’m so glad Gibson/ epiphone released this in an epiphone model. I’m a life long tool / Adam Jones fan. The silverburst custom is my dream guitar. The price they offer all of this makes it affordable for me to have my dream guitar 😍 or at least as close to it as I ever will be

i am so glad, that headstock looks amazing with the Epiphone logo. No more clipped ears or the awkward new headstock. I am a Gibson snob but Epiphone truly is great especially at this price point.

Ok..I can definitely get into the logo with the headstock binding.

Going by recent Gibson and Epiphone trends I have a theory.

Gibson have been focusing hard on producing these crazy investment level collectors guitars while not overly pushing their standard lines.

Epiphone however have massively stepped up quality of production and also their marketing and price point.

I have a feeling that Gibson may want Epiphone with their build quality improving so drastically and giving a lot of players what they want to take the place of perhaps the Gibson standard line of old while Gibson will continue to focus on these special edition collaborations etc etc.

Just a theory I’ve had and to be honest I wouldn’t be mad about it because I think the new generation epiphone stuff is outstanding.
