Toyota Opens a Portal to the Future of Zero Emission Trucking

Picture the 710 Freeway heading south, bumper-to-bumper semis hauling cargo to and from the bustling Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Now imagine those trucks are moving that cargo, quietly, quickly and without producing any emissions. Toyota is working to make this vision a reality.

80, 000lbs up hill would be a better test.

The reliability, cost, availability for fuel and down time is what you have to consider. That's why diesel is still in use today.

a Diesel truck never, never starts so slowly

I don't know if I want trucks moving that fast

However this is only 35000 gvw. It's an unrealistic test. (It's basically an empty truck!)

acceleration might be good with the fuel cell truck but the top speed ( doesn't really matters ) will be for sure with deisel truck as the ic engine comes into its own at a certain rpm by gradually increasing its torque output, while the electric motor has a flattish torque curve and starts to decline rapidly after a certain rpm, so yeah top end is for sure the deisel one ....

It's so important that one truck accelerates faster than another.

awesome idea, just would be interesting to know what range the electric truck has?

Proves the point that we can move towards a more renewable future

Impressive, but trucking companies don't make fleet changes based on acceleration. Maybe try some mileage/long distance reliability tests.

wow .. now we car race with trucks 😍 dream came reality ❤

Passenger jets are the most difficult thing to decarbonize (but, see my post below, it can be done.) We can also make an end-run, by having bullet trains, and the Hyperloop. Then, we would only need planes for transoceanic routes. If we were on good terms with Russia, we could even bridge the Bering straight, and put tracks there. An 80 mile/hour Freight train would solve our Supply Chain issue pretty quickly. Container ships only go about 15 mph, because they use Way more fuel if they go 30 or 40 miles/hour. The difference with water viscosity is exponential. And, Yes, the train would have to go North to Siberia, and then back South, but, if electrically powered, or powered with a Green Ammonia fuel cell, instead of Diesel, it wouldn't really matter.
With the Arctic melting, Northeast passage ship crossings become possible. When Greenland's ice sheet melts, we could even put railroad tracks from the Southwest to Northeast corner of that Huge island, as a sort of portage. Then, the container ships have a short route to Northern Scandinavia, can offload again, and a freight train takes the goods South, where ships take the containers a short distance to Hamburg or Copenhagen.

that thing might actually have a better 0-60 than my friends Saturn

You (diesel) vs the guy she tells you not to worry about (fuel cell)

i dont see how people say Hydrogen fuel cells are green energy, it requires an equal amount of electricity to produce it for what get out of it, and that electricity comes from 66% coal and gas.

So I'm guessing the only way to fit a sleeper on the fuel cell truck is to either stretch the frame to make it longer or go cab over, I'd go cab over haha. I like the sound of the fuel cell truck though it's like a space ship.😀

so u put the fuel cell inside the sleeper, where are truckers supposed to sleep?
