I don't understand why some golfers ROUTINELY use an L-Wedge for geenside chips.
The only time I might use an L-Wedge is when faced with an extreme situation.
Clubs that I use for chipping:
* S-Wedge: My most used and most versatile club. It can stop the ball with trajectory and/or backspin.
* GW, PW, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5-Iron: These clubs perform somewhere between a SW and a 4 iron.
* 4-Iron: This club is very effective at charging the ball up a hill.

Smart. For a chip of that distance, Jack Nicklaus would have probably used a 6-iron. Just choke down to the bottom of the grip.

Wrong. Lobbing with backspin is a safer, more conservative shot. Chip and run does give you a better chance at putting it in the hole, but it’s also more difficult to gauge distance and you run a greater risk of misjudging distance. So if you are a pro with great feel, chip and run. If you are an amateur, lob unless you need to be aggressive.
