Is the Leica SL still Relevant?

In today's video I talk about a few reason why I think the Leica SL is still a great camera to get into if you are new to the Leica world or if you are simply looking to make the jump from a DSLR camera to a Mirrorless camera. So I already followed you because of your work with some of the models you’ve shot. Recently got a Leica sl and sold all my Sony gear. So I started searching and you came up and I was like oh yeah. Made the right choice lol. Since I love your work and it was one of the reasons I decided to start shooting. Thanks for the videos. There still aren’t many. If you ever wanna make more about how compose with the leica like maybe recording the evf I would be so appreciative.

I had the same issues with the Sony A7, at first I liked the small body having come from a Nikon D700. But the menu system was too complicated and since I mainly used rangefinders most days when I did pick up the A7 I had to re-learn where everything was in the endless menu system. While the idea of a compact camera seemed like a good idea my hands felt cramped trying to use any of the many buttons. Been considering the Leica SL on which I can use my M mount lenses an also have it for scanning negatives when needed.

I bought the SL shortly after I saw the SL2. I wanted to see if the changes were worth the $6k price vs what the SL might drop down too. I really liked the 4 button system on the SL and the build from milled aluminum and built in gps. All things gone in SL2. I’m still not convinced the 47 megapixel sensor has the Leica look. I bought a new SL in December for $4100. It’s a spectacular camera, with no issues. It remains the best mirrorless camera to date.

To answer the question 'Is the Leica Sl still relevant:...it was never relevant, but just saw one on ebay for £1299. Makes it a bit more relevant...a bit.

I just bought a used Leica SL two days ago. I still need a lens. Gotta save my pennies for that one. I was also a Nikon shooter and my husband told me that I needed to divorce Nikon. He strongly suggested that I sell my Nikon cameras. Getting rid of my Nikons was like ripping a scab off and bleeding, it HURT! But now I have a Leica TL2 with 4 lenses and my used Leica SL. And so far, I have to admit that my husband was right. I love the build quality of Leica, the image quality and most of all, I love Leica’s simplicity. It’s refreshing. I don’t feel overwhelmed with Leica. Nikon and others are so complicated. Too many buttons makes me a very angry, frustrated person. Keep it simple stupid, as the old saying goes. I would rather have a quality camera, quality lenses, quality images and simple operation rather than have a million buttons to wow my friends. Leica is where it’s at, definitely. I have indeed divorced Nikon.

06:08. Could you care to elaborate on how the SL2 - "blows the SL out of the water". I think you'll find yourself struggling as you've just gone with the hype.

Great video - thanks for reviewing "my" camera ;) Have you mentioned the lens options you get through the l-mount alliance? Of course we all wants that Leica lens bokeh look, but sometimes a compromise is a good option.

Hey Victor.Thank you for your review.William ainbody writes also for the built from milled aluminum and you don’t answer to this.Only two pro bodies were built like this:Nikon f5 and Leica SL.Also M8, M9, M240, M M1 and2 was made from brass (top and bottom).I think M262, MD and M10 ando also M10 monochrome are made of aluminum.Correct me if I am wrong.

Hey thanks for reviewing this. Coincidentally I am looking to sell my EOSR and 70-200 for a Leica SL. I am budgeting for a 3rd party lens as I am limited on the lens department (while I also adapt a couple of my leica M mount lenses). Do you think the Sigma 85mm 1.4 L mount would be a good lens for fast AF and walking subjects? Thanks

Hello Quintana I see you have the Leica 24-90 Lens, could you do a review of that lens? with sample photos? Am looking into getting the SL (first gen) and the 24-90. I currently shoot with the Leica Q but is limited. I haven't seen any 2020 review on that lens. Thanx @t​ - @t
