Hey all, thank you for your feedback, we appreciate. Apologies for the publication delay of these LHCNews. We are a very small team and we all needed a break after the 12h live production on the 30th. The music was cheesy ok, but it's an epic event and...
Next time I'll go for Slipknot or Metallica, which is my favourite.

Congrats CERN. It's heart warming to see such a massive undertaking succeed. Can't wait to start seeing the impact LHC's data will have on the scientific community.

@toyracers That's correct. The LHC has a potential of colliding protons at 14Tev. We decided to run it for 18-24 months at half energy. This option allows us to "run in" the machine safely. According to theory, that energy range is sufficient to observe plenty of unexplored physics, including Higgs, if it exists.

Congratulations on the successful collisions! It will be exciting to see what the analysis of them will show. Good luck!

Thank you for the latest update and congrats on you first 7Tev collisions. I'm looking forward to the findings :)

@LokiClock Exactly. The QPS failed to detect conditions that lead to a quench. The system is new and as all prototypes, it takes some time to stabilize, debug and work fine.

@Steaphany The LHC was engineered to collide proton-proton. There are a number of reasons, connected to its physics program, why we chose that instead of proton-antiproton. Most important is perhaps the fact that it is much harder to make antiprotons, than protons. With antiprotons, you have smaller bunches, therefore less luminosity, and lower collision rate, so finally less chances of interesting events. For more details search for lhc proton-proton in physicsforum-com.

@captainben21 That is not wine, but Champagne, and it flows on great occasions, such as the LHC's first beams, its energy records, and now, its first collisions!
The LHC Control Room is in France after all.

@Hornet85 7Tev is largely enough to see plenty of new things, including the Higgs. But even without Higgs, don't forget that there are a lot mysteries and puzzles to find out. There are 7 experiments on the LHC, some look for antimatter, others for quark-gluon plasma, other study the proton itself, which still a very poorly understood thing, the big experiments look for supersymmetry, dark matter, dark energy, extra dimensions etc. All very exciting...

@CERNTV & Paola

Thanks for the clarification! I also was worried the updates were ending.
I LOVE the videos about the LHC and CERN in general.
Thank you VERY, VERY, much for the hard work involved in producing these updates. It is MUCH appreciated!!

If anyone is a geek like me...complte the following....
