When Napoleons troops were getting the shit beat out of them in Spain there was a battle between wellington and one of napoleons marshals, the French used many Irish regiments in the war, honoring an old tradition where Irish catholic "wild geese" and their descendants would serve in the regiments of the catholic realms, wellington also used many Irish troops. The centerpiece of this battle was a great hill with a commanding view that both commanders would try to maneuver to take in the course of the day. As wellingtons light Irish foot ascended the hill playing this very song they heard it being played back across the breeze from up the hill, once they were in view of the zenith of the hill they found fellow Irishmen drawn up in their French uniforms playing st patricks day, daring the British to attempt an assault. The irishmen under wellingtons command took up the challenge and charged up the hill towards their countrymen both sides playing this song as loudly and rapidly as they could over the 2 hour melee, eventually the French retreated and the franco-irishmen were forced off that hill. No reason behind this really just thought it was interesting.

As an American with Irish and British blood, if I was told to join the BA, this would be one of if not the first regiment that would come to mind.
