as a recent graduate (may 2019) of an engineering program, my advice, first day of class dont sit in the back, make friends with the professors and make friends with the smart kids. Pretend your classroom is a job fair, you are there to network with the right people so that you have resources for when you get stuck.

if, after high school/secondary school you are already a hardworking individual who has a clear passion for certain subjects and a goal, then further education is for you, if not however, you should take a year out to work and look into different subjects and see what you think is fun and interesting, and continue this until you are a hardworking individual with a clear passion for your subjects and a goal. You most likely won't work hard next year if you didn't this year. Most people seem to go to further education to procrastinate real life, and have no idea what they find interesting and fun, get mediocre grades and regret their choices, but continue anyway because going back would mean more loans and repeating years. Fuck that trap.
