The actual reason the beetle died is possibly because it drowned. Most insects breathe through holes in their exoskeleton, usually on their legs. When water comes into contact with these airways, surface tension can cause the water to bead up and stay over the hole, preventing the bug from being able to breathe.

Blue deathfainting beetles are pretty cool and can actually do very well in a desert terrarium as there bodies create this white powder on there exoskeleton which is literally there own biological sun screen.

This is one of the reason water should be super effective against steel because it makes it rust and IRON clad beetles die to water
