An Introduction to Koans: Dharma Talk with Henry Shukman - April 21, 2022

Henry continues his two part introduction to Koans. Koans point to that which underlies everything without exception, in a most unimaginable way. They help us to experience life, objects, all things, more personally and clearly. Koans are not about words, but often involve material objects, the things of everyday life. Koan practice helps us notice material things in a fresh, original way.

You can only go so far in talking about koans, however, without addressing the kensho experience: "Seeing original nature." This could be your original nature, or the original nature of the table you are sitting at, or the cushion you sit upon. When you find the original nature of yourself, you find the original nature of the table (and vice versa). Why is this?

This is talk two of Henry's series. Unfortunately, talk one disappeared into the internet ethos during the download process.

You should carry at least a staff since you are always on t-shirt... no robe.
