My great grandmother and great uncle knew Haigh well and said he was always friendly. They lived near his workshop in Crawley and he would often take care of my great grandmother's cat and would take it back to her if he saw it out at night. It was often joked in the family that it was lucky that they were penniless or they too would have been murdered. My great uncle said that Haigh was a regular at the local pub, and would always sit in the same place. After his crimes came to light, nobody would sit there and the empty seat was like a looming presence.

Paul is the best dressed dear ole fella. I wish I could pull that look off. He was (and still is) a handsome dude.

Such a monster that had a kinder burial than his victims. Thank you for the story.

I recall a quote from someone who wrote about Haigh before saying along the lines of "if he hadn't tried to make out he was mad and just been himself, they would have found him insane."

This host may be the coolest guy on the internet. And I for one appreciate the fact that he doesn’t implore me to “smash” that like button.

I'm from Crawley and my brother lives on Leopold Road approximately on the site of the old warehouse, so I knew of 'the acid bath murderer' from rumours but I'd never really looked into the full story. I never even knew about his crimes before the Crawley warehouse, nor the whole vampire drinking the victims blood thing. Excellent and very informative video my good sir, thank you 🙂 blessings to the victims families 💚

There was a joke that Haigh helped increase the conviction rate while he was held while on trial as he would offer inmates 'legal advice' much of which was complete rubbish.
He was also nicknamed 'Corpus delicti' as he believed that this meant that in order to be prosecuted, the police had to have a body. (Haigh misinterpreted 'Corpus' as literally meaning 'body' whereas it's meaning is more like 'Body' in 'Body of evidence'.)

There’s something really comforting about your voice - I think it’s because you have moments where you sound exactly like my grandad who was also a great story teller - he grew up in cambuslang outside Glasgow, but had a slight twang to his accent from living in Canada and England for several years before coming home again

I truly enjoy and look forward to listening to these videos. They are so well told and thought out. I wished my college teachers taught more like this. I would have been top marks! Thank you.

I always knew about the later killing that got him in trouble in the end, but didn't know much about the earlier murders. Very informative.

Well, I never .... But sometimes I wish I could! Some people are just so entitled and rude, especially at this time of year. This is when we should all be on our best behavior and spreading good will to all.

Happy Holidays to each and all. May you all have safe and loving holidays regardless of how you celebrate!

What else was sulfuric acid used for, in large quantities, in the areas where John was disposing his victims? How did no one think his orders were suspicious before cops started looking in to him. Could it just be that serial killers just weren't known about?
Btw, I love your look! You're quite handsome and I really enjoy your voice. Thank-you for all you do for a bunch of internet strangers! You are appreciated.

Well I never... because John George Haigh was a story I was going to suggest be covered here!
Something that may be of interesting; reporting of Haigh's trial by the Daily Mail led to the editor, Silvester Bolam, being sentenced to three months in prison for contempt of court after the paper called Haigh a murderer before he had been convicted. The paper had also called him a vampire, but that doesn't seem to have carried the same weight.
