The first time Facebook tried manipulating me, I dropped them immediately. When I first signed on, I used it to wish birthdays to friends and family. Shortly they took away that information and wanted me to sign up some app or something that could give away my info (can remember the details). That started me disliking FB. Hated watching acquaintances forwarding false info. This was 10+ years ago.

My daughter is now 22, when she was 17 I had her research the effects of social media on teenagers. I didn’t forbid her from using it, but I did insist she follow through on the research. After 2 weeks of reading many articles and studies she deleted all of her social media accounts and never looked back! To this day she is 100% anti social media and does everything she can to present her friends with information to help them let go of this addiction as well.

The gentleman very well described in simple ways that the search algorithm works. The one thing that he didn't mention is that this applies across the board whether it being your crazy uncles fascist views, or cat videos. Everything is really built around making groups of common things between family, friends, close groups you start to follow, and selling them products. Facebook needs outside regulation.
