The Truth About Van Life As A Poor Working Senior At 75

I have done many many videos on van life and seniors living as nomads in rvs, cars, and in other alternative living situations. Many of those seniors are doing so by choice and love the freedom the lifestyle offers. Many others are forced to move into vehicles because they are living on meager fixed social incomes. Some like Lindy in this video have adapted and if given the chance to move back to a traditional housing situation would choose to remain as nomads.
But, every senior I have encountered living on a very limited income faces enormous challenges and in this video and in future videos I will be sharing some of those challenges and the bravery of these seniors. They are at a time in life where they have spent years contributing to society but seem to have been cast aside in many instances to fend for themselves caught up in senseless bureaucratic mazes that make their lives even more difficult. I know many of my viewers are very familiar with these challenges as you are seniors in similar circumstances. I would love to hear your remarks and opinions.
If you would like to support Lindy there is an easy way to do it. Just go over to her YouTube channel,
L.A.V.A. Lindy's Awesome Van Adventures, and subscribe. You can run her playlist of videos and like each of her videos. This will help her to become monetized on her YouTube channel.
****I will be having a meetup in Quartzsite, Arizona

My 90 yr old mom lives with me. It is very difficult but I would never let her be homeless.

I don't see stockpiling food in her situation as hoarding. I see it as survival.

Being a 69 year old woman, and being a disabled retiree at this point, I am seeing everything you said to be true. I am a Registered Nurse, and having a very hard time, finding remote work. I need remote work, because of my back issues. I am waiting to have surgery to try and improve my back, but there are no guarantees! My 401 is being used up, and I am moving out of my Condo, and am hoping to use the money I get, to buy some land with my sister, and a Modular home. I am hoping to get a remote Job, but so far nothing! It really is our Countries dirty little secret, on how we treat the elderly! Even my oldest son has abandoned me! Thank God for my youngest son. He has moved in with me, to help me with my physical needs. I support people like us!

Lindy, you are NOT a hoarder. You are a prepper! You are very smart and I commend you on your prepping of food because you are going to need it.

My Mother raised my brother and I by herself. She never had any retirement money and worked at Walmart Photo Lab along with Social Security to survive. When she wasn’t able to work anymore, my brother and I made up the difference. We took care of everything for her. Eye glasses, prescriptions, clothes, food, utilities, gas, tv, furniture, computer, cellphone, cable and more. Her SS checks just paid her rent in her apartment. Mom wouldn’t have survived without us. It’s so sad how America treats seniors and veterans. I’m glad my brother and I had careers where we could take care of her all the way to the end of her life. She was one of the lucky ones. Mom had family.

What is sad about this situation is our government sends billions to foreign countries and ignoring their own citizens basic needs to survive. Senior citizens and children are homeless, but we give thousands to everyone except those who desperately need help, Prayers for this lady, sending hugs.

Unfortunately it’s not just seniors that are having a hard time finding affordable housing. It’s happening to folks of all ages.

I'm a retired hospital dietitian and this was one of the most frustrating parts of my job. It was frequently senior women living in poverty who had to buy their medications and then had nothing left for food. So many of their medical conditions would be improved and medications not needed if they could eat better!! The government will pay through medicare for a diabetic's foot to be amputated but not for enough medication and healthy food to avoid that problem. So sad and frustrating.

I do my summers in Colorado Springs, it's cooler most of the year and I invest in a Regal Theatre movie pass to spend time in ac and a recliner taking in a movie in the heat of the day, the pass is just under $20 a month. In Colorado overnights are generally nice and cool.

Everybody is making comments on how she is surviving by being prepared and how she chose to live this way. She's in her 70s. Shes done her time in life. She deserves to live out her last years on earth comfortably without having to compromise on housing, food or healthcare
