Well technically Matlab is a calculator with extra steps.

Matlab documentation has to be some of the most comprehensive. There is literally an explanation and multiple examples for every single function.

MATLAB does NOT have bad documentation. I hate MATLAB for being closed sourced, but it has several outstanding features, including an excellent documentation.

I think MATLAB has the best documentation of any language I’ve seen. Yeah closed sources sucks but it’s really powerful for the engineering applications it was made for

MATLAB having poor documentation is just... not true at all though?

My man just called matlab poorly documented 💀

Not to be that guy, but who puts matlab as most hated? It is useful for what it is supposed to do 🤷‍♂️

Dude, 98% of those who could hate cobol are dead from age

Matlab/Octave is a fine language for its intended purpose. If you want to quickly do a calculation with complex numbers and/or a matrix it is good.

The problem with MATLAB is that the iterator index in loops starts at 1, not 0 as in all other programming languages.

Important to note that this is based on the StackOverflow Survey 2022.
Love = using the language and planing to continue use it.
Dread = using the language, but planning to use it less.

I don't thinkg VBA is hated because of its documentation. It's more likely because people are using VBA to maintain legacy code (like for COBOL) and are hoping to move on to something else eventually.

You can do a lot with VBA. Using some screenshot-type images I created in Unity with a 3D character, I built an actual RPG for a game jam last year. A bunch of userforms for the various menus and game level with the data stored in Excel tables, I was able to build a basic RPG completely in VBA.

There are only two kinds of programming languages: those that are constantly scolded and those that no one uses

I think VBA is a very easy to learn, fun and useful language for office programs like Excel 😅
