100%! One of the biggest issues I have with clients is convincing them that their voice is a RESOURCE, and giving it out at the wrong time, or in too much excess, only serves to devalue the words and commands!

Right on the money as usual!!! I have 2 German Shepherds, one is trained in English, the other in Gaelic. This way only one does what I want them to do!!!

Yes, i always taught my dogs hand commands first and then the words.. people used to say i was doing it wrong. I feel validated now, thank you!

I definitely made this mistake with my first dog. He's a vizsla pit mix. Super smart, super fast, but his reaction time is way slower than it could be because I unknowingly made this mistake. Now I know better! He's only 2. I'm wondering if its possible to step back to hand commands to reinforce speed? 🤔

Correct correct. When I was training my boxer, the trainer and I used a clicker just like you have we did it because that seemed to work the best with him. For some reason my boxer listened. I was more alert when I used the clicker with a hand command. With my doberman and my Rottweiler, they took very well in the beginning with hand commands. I miss them so much, but I love watching your videos because my dogs were trained the same way that you train yours and that is because when I had them, my son is a deputy and I was able to train with the trainers there. I’m telling you you guys that do this are completely.A #1 in my book.

Good tip. I didn't think of that when I started training my puppy (10 years ago), but I made sure to pair hand commands with some of the basics (sit, stay, (lay) down, and speak. By the time he was two, he was better trained and more USEFUL than 95% of most dogs. Only actual working dogs were more educated than him.

My girl did certain things all by herself. I just gave it a name. She learned really quick.

If we named a command too early, what should we do? Would it be smart to lay off on saying it until we get it perfect and then reintroduce the word? Or is it better to switch the command name once it’s perfect

I make that mistake too. And another mistake is never stopping when you are ahead. The dog needs a break too and will eventually get so frustrated.

How do you cure resources guarding, especially with an older or shelter dog? Thanks!

How about if you have problems with your hands and can't do commands with hand signals first before the word commands?

OMG THATS A TOLLER!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

They are really smart and can be very stubborn. High energy dogs. Easy to train but not for everyone. There basically little foxes and they're amazing ❤

Tell that to my family!!! I try introducing a new command with hand signals first to my Aussie. Then my overly excited kids go straight to verbal commands! 🤦‍♀️
