I’ve gotten the question a LOT of how these burton step on snowboard bindings have held up after 2 seasons of riding. How the wear and tear was, if it would change how they functioned and how I still liked them. So I’m this video I break down how I feel about the Burton Step On Snowboard bindings 2 years later and show how they’ve held up through all the snowboarding and abuse I’ve put them through!

Snowboarder of 20+ years, just rode my new step-ons for the first time yesterday. I'll never go back. The responsiveness was similar to an alpine setup. Looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow. Thanks for your longevity review.

Good review.

I've been riding the Burton Step On system since their first release in 2017 - on average 50 days a season. I was an early adopter and had to pre-order them from a Burton Flagship Store in Vail. I have three sets (2 with V1 toe hooks and 1 with V2 toe hooks) for my 3 main boards. For me it's about Comfort, Control, Convenience. I have 2 sets of Photon boots. Union and Flux have jumped on board with Burton licensing the Step On technology to them. Nitro and DC offer have Step On boots - and Union (Fall 2025) will be opening a boot division.

Comfort - all day comfort, no stress or strain on the foot from straps. It's like riding with the comfort of bedroom slippers if you get the boot that's right for you. The bindings are also super light - no straps or ratchets.
Control - heel and toes are locked in, so heel to toe transition gives fast response and great performance. You won't fall out of them - straps will snap under strain or wear / snap over time. Much less effort needed to control the board. If it's 'too much control', you can always loosen your boots - if you want. The reflex base plate does provide side to side flex which is good. Even on powder days I have no issue with the Step On system. Even when your heel locks into the first position, the heel will self tighten on the next heel turn or if making a little hop.
Convenience - in and out so quick even getting off the lift. By the time people ask "Hey - are those the...." you're gone down the mountain while they are still on their butts. I prefer to be known, as a 'Step On' guy - rather than a 'Strap On' guy.

Over the years I've tried Flow NX2, K2 Cinch TS, Supermatics (just for one day). But they all have straps and result in some fatigue. I was always finding I had to micro adjust the toe straps when stepping in to them.

If you ride 10+ days a year then at least try Burton Step On technology though which ever vendors now offer those bindings and boots. I have even seen some people remove the heel cleat and ride the Step On boots in regular bindings just as a proof point..

Yes I am biased - but that bias is based on experience of many bindings over many years.

Peace out.

The only people that criticize the Step Ons are people that haven't used them

The only thing I didn’t like about snowboarding was getting down to tighten the straps. I rented a pair of stepons on my last day of last season and was sold after my 3rd ride. I finally bought my Step-ons this week. They are just freaking $$$$😅

I got them this year for ski patrol it makes it so much easier and they take a little getting used to getting out but one you get used to them they are amazing

I have them now for 3 years and I love them. The responsiveness is great, while you are gliding out of a lift you can put them on. It was an investment (shoes and bindings) but worth every penny.

Hi Alex, YT recommended this video and I checked it out and wanted to share my experience after a full season with this setup roughly about 40+ days on the mountain.

Issues:
1. One of the BOA dials on my photon boot popped off and broke. It was while I was riding and I didn't hit anything so not sure what happened there but it was easily fixed, although I had to work directly with BOA instead of Burton
2. On one occasion, while trying to step onto the binding, my balance was slightly off and I stepped on one of the toe hooks. I have the second generation that has a separate piece to reduce the clicking noise and when I accidentally stepped on the toe hook, it broke the plastic piece. I was able to continue snowboarding with a single toe hook and the boot never popped off but Burton recommended that I don't do that... I think that may be lawyer talk. The customer service from Burton was fantastic and although I could have easily fixed it myself with spare parts, they would not ship me spare parts but I had to ship the binding to them for them to fix. A little annoying but the speed was amazingly fast

Other than the issues above, I love the set up. I never had a proper strap setup so can't speak to the responsiveness but one thing I love about the bindings are how lightweight they are and the compactness for a clean look. I may try the new Nidecker Supermatics at some point if I get multiple boards but my feet fit well in Burton boots so step ons will continue to be my primary.

Very happy with the quality, perfect for a beginner testing out the sport.

Great vid! I'm looking to invest in a set of step ons. I've been boarding for 25+ years and learned with step ins back when the technology wasnt where it is today. I ended up switching to traditional bindings after a few years. However my wife skis and son is learning to ski it would make popping in and out easier and they wouldn't have to wait for me!

I got a set of photons with genesis step ons and am in absolute love with them. And i dont mean just because of ease of entry but the actual feel of them. I have bad circulation in ny feet but i love fast response so when i use straps i need to crank the blood out of my feet to get the response i want. The step ons allow me to have the boot medium tight and distribute the pressure across the whole boot instead of just 2 straps. I have the same response with absolute comfort. Absolutely in love.

I was looking at some rear entry bindings for a new setup I'm treating myself to but was able to try the step-ons for a day and they won me over. I'm a penny pincher but even the steep entry cost couldn't keep me away after trying them.

One thing I will say is the most important part are the boots. There was no performance difference between the different bindings in my opinion. Any difference I think results from an excellent marketing campaign from Burton helping people develop a confirmation bias.

I have been thinking about whether or not to go with step ons next time I have to revamp my board setup, as I am 14 currently, and this video helped me decide

Just picked these up, not the same boots but DC step on and the Burton step on bindings. Looking forward to using them in the winter

Lol, did not realize this was you, the guy from instagram😂 I actually bought the step ons because of the meme😂 and some direct reviews from friends, but the meme sold it😂

Glad they work so well. I’ve been thinking about getting them mainly due to foot discomfort and convenience. Current with my vans laced boots plus the straps, my feet feel like they’re gonna fall off on every run practically!

how tight are they, and what size shoe do you wear?
i am a traditional binding guy, i run a loose boot tight binding setup
i've heard that step-ons the boots have to be really tight for them to work properly is that true?

I like step ons, not because regular bindings are hard to put on, I just like more time shredding on the mountain
