There's always a risk of downloading malware with or without curseforge. But if they are an official hub, they should have software that scans everything being uploaded to the site not just for our safety but for theirs as well. If they aren't secured, no one should trust their files and just download from the original source.

I think that people have to remember that there is always a risk you are taking downloading anything onto your computer, laptop, phone, etc. There are no guarantees that even if you use a reputable source, you can’t get hacked.
Heck, even using your card at the store, you are taking a chance.
That’s why it’s best to invest in good Antivirus software. ( I know even these can fail). I hope they can get all of this sorted out. While I rarely use Cursed Forge for my CC, I do think it’s a good place for those who are new to downloading CC to start. Thank you for sharing this because I was unaware of this issue.

thank u for always giving such helpful updates! tbh i think finding a set few of creators i really like and not deviating outside that much has made me feel pretty safe :) if littlemssam starts putting malware in her mods it's all over for me lmao

I love Curseforge and I've been using it to keep my WoW addons up to date for years so having it for the sims is a blessing.

The Sims Resource is my favorite. Worth the VIP fee in my opinion!

I only started using mods/CC in my game when Curseforge went live for Sims 4. I love it so far and haven’t experienced any issues.

I've had this in the back of my mind. Was curious if the hosting site does any scanning/filtering to ensure their content is safe for users. Disappointed to hear that a few things got through but I suppose it is to be expected. Thanks for the informative video.

Good looking out, Erin. It's always good to have virus protection and scan your CC before you put anything into your game.

Hi Erin, I've used TSR for awhile now and haven't felt the need to use any other sites. I really don't mind the ads either. I mean, it's free CC so I can't complain too much about ads. I really like their content and I like the option to use Maxis Match. Thankfully, I haven't had any problems so far and I do have a very robust security system on my computer. I agree that having that is really important if you're going to download custom content. Thanks for an always informative and insightful video.

In general, people should always be careful even if they have an anti-virus app. It's also another reason to have an ad blocker (like uBlock Origin) despite most websites, including The Sims Resource, hating ad blockers because ad blockers also block dangerous ads and make the website better to use. Most notably, YouTube is more usable with an ad blocker as you won't get ads when watching videos and it makes the "Premium" perk of no ads pointless (though it's more useful if on console, TV, or mobile phone). However, it doesn't affect sponsors, but you can get SponsorBlock to skip sponsors.

Almost any website, video games included, is going to have an attack or scam. I remember Steam had a scam where Level 0/1 and Private accounts would friend invite you who would send a link containing a virus. Back in the day, Steam used to allow *anyone* to send a friend invite which is how these attacks worked. Valve patched this so that users need to spend real money on Steam to actually friend invite someone.

I think think could be a reason to not download mods or CC. Due to the way The Sims 4 is designed, mods can break the game if an update comes out because of code updates. Back in The Sims 3 as early as The Sims 3 High-End Loft/Design & Hi-Tech Stuff, EA actually recommended Simmers to disable their custom content before updating. EA could solve this issue if they offer a rollback (some games on Steam), have separate instances like Minecraft: Java Edition does where an update to the main game doesn't affect modded games, or have a separate build for The Sims 4 designed for mods like Terraria's tModLoader.

The issue is everytime they find away to stop malware, someone finds away to get around it. I have found Curseforce to be cumbersome and it downloads the mods over and over. I use virus protection and have had warnings pop up whe. I tried to download from a site that i had downloaded from forever. If my Virius protection even says suspicious I don't download it.

I download everywhere, when the game gets stuck I delete everything and start from the beginning, oh yes there were viruses and dangerous ones, for some it took me several days to find and remove them, but that's the risk of downloading. I don't use CursForge because I like to have everything separated by files, and with them you have to have everything together in one moods folder.

Anything online opens the risk of things like this. I don't think Curseforge is any higher risk than other places, and at least they are keeping on top of problems.

I have yet to use curseforge. When it first launched the navigation was horrible and I haven't looked at it since.

If anything, at least Curseforge pays out ad-sense to ALL of their creators. Sims Resource only pays out to some creators. When you download from even the smallest creators on Curseforge you are helping support them monetarily. If you aren't a select or featured artist, sims resource gives you nothing for uploading to their site.
As for the minecraft stuff, I am under the assumption that they used already established accounts to post *updated* files to existing mc mods. Which means they might not have been looked over as closely as a brand new posting. Very unfortunate but I have a feeling they will be paying much closer attention to all updated files for established mods.

Carl's Guides are the best :3 . I HATE TSR now. I get that there is a wait time. that's fine. but there are TWOI timed it the count down is actually longer, it also seems to stop if you navigate away. The ads are aggrieve. it was my go-to site until the change. The cost is too much. I've tried curse forge I'm not a fan so far. I can't tell if it's working

If you're also referring to hackers, then yes---we're all at risk...

Oooh thanks for the update Erin! I hadn't heard about this. I've never used CurseForge, but it's still good to be mindful
