You will never forget your first Code Blue! 🚑
⭐It can be scary, sad, and chaotic, usually all at once! Try to stay calm, and focus on your skills.
Many hospitals run debriefing sessions after a code. This allows for emotional & clinical
processing of a stressful and traumatic event, as well as reflecting on how the team can improve their process.
⭐Don’t be surprised if you’re able to handle the event well and feel the trauma and upsetting emotions later on. This is also normal (you’ll get quite an adrenaline rush – your patient needs you & you’ve jumped into action!) Our bodies will naturally come down from that rush. Don’t be afraid to reach out to talk, let your friends, family, and colleagues know what you’re feeling, and focus on your own recovery, no matter how quick or long of a moment you may need.
⭐Mock codes are a huge way that hospitals prepare their nurses and staff for critical situations. Take advantage of mock codes through educational resources, keep up to date with AHA, BLS, PALS, and ACLS guidelines, and ask questions if you have any. It’s better to feel prepared BEFORE than confused in the process.

A message from Kristine, founder of NurseInTheMaking📣
My name is Kristine and I survived nursing school…and you can too!
Nurse In The Making was inspired during my time in nursing school. I immediately struggled and decided to create my own study guides. These guides have helped me personally as well as many others make nursing school just a little more manageable.I hope you find comfort knowing that everyone struggles at times. Nursing school is emotionally and physically draining. I hope these informative, clean, and simple guides help you navigate through all the information because there is A LOT of it in nursing school.
Happy Studying Future Nurses. Don't forget to enjoy the journey!
