Finally 'REAL' buttons on VW GTI MK8 steering wheel

Finally installed physical buttons to replace the haptic touch buttons on GTI Mk8.
I used these Genuine OEM Volkswagen Steering Multi Switch part number 3G0959442SVJA.

Steering Wheel Frame is from Aliexpress. Its cheaper than OEM. The Genuine OEM frame is part 5H0419685B3DP. Only available in Europe at the moment.

NOTE: IF YOU DO GET ENGINE FAULTS OR AIRBAG FAULTS, YOU CAN USE A SCANNER TO CLEAR THE CODES. I USED MY OBDELEVEN.

I was originally planning on ordering an OEM steering wheel from the new MK8.5 when it becomes available but this will end up being so much cheaper thanks!

the piano black trim actually looks great with the silver media buttons keeping the theme going

You don’t have voice control on that trim, when you have warning when you start first time, just click ok button, great video, I might do same, thanks

I don't think you ever really mention what holds the airbag on. We can see you struggling for a bit with it and then... Voilà! It's off. What tool, how many fasteners, any tricks? It's hard to tell what exactly you are doing because your hands are hidden behind the steering wheel.

Also, does pulling that fuse kill power to the airbag or just the horn? I would think it would be prudent to depower the airbag before fiddling with it. No?

Could you have used the OEM silver frame instead of the black one you bought online. From your video it looks like you could’ve replaced the haptic buttons with the ones you got from Ebay without having to replace the whole entire frame. I’m curious if you considered that or if this was a choice you made to go with the black frame.
