The way you're using his words is sort of misleading. He's making an educated estimate as a response to a question he was asked. It's like if a key football player was injured and then suggesting that maybe the team won't win because of it.

If his health affected his play, then he shouldn't be playing... Once you play, your games WILL be analyzed and criticized, good or bad... If he was in great shape, the narrative would be "despite his bad health, he's still in great form", so it's not because if health issues that he is criticized, nobody cares about that... Honestly magnus has stated before that IF ding is at his best, he can’t lose. Magnus said even he wasn’t sure that if they both played at their best that he would come out on top. Ding is hands down one of, if not the strongest, classical chess player when he’s literally at his best. Multiple other players have also said that he’s incredibly sharp and cunning when attacking or defending. But he’s not good right now, he’s too busy, not focused, etc. I love ding a lot and I was so happy he won but I want him to have more confidence in himself and bring out his inner dragon this next world championship. He’s just the type of guy you never wanna see lose because he’s wholesome and humble.

The whole concept of the world championship was to prove the best player of that Era, Magnus by far is and has been the most dominant Champion the History of the game has seen.
