Magnus is correct. If they play perfect its a draw. There is nothing wrong with forcing your opponent to play perfectly with the chance they make a mistake and you can win.

Magnus has won too many drawn end games to consider offering a draw too quickly.

It’s a terrible question to ask HIM specifically. He is notorious for pulling out miraculous wins in draw-ish positions. So obviously he will play on in these positions waiting for even the smallest mistake from his opponent…

Magnus was too polite with this question.

"I understood it immediately" Was epic 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

His mindset only makes sense to him and regular folks. Other GMs seem confused. He thinks it’s a draw so he reasons there’s no harm in trying some tricks to entice a mistake. Other strong players see it’s a draw and believe playing on means they might make a mistake if they try and get too cute. The difference is all about his confidence to walk the line and play the most challenging lines that keep the draw. He’s not worried he’ll mess up.

“I only offer draws when I have bad food poisoning. That was not the case today, thus my opponent must earn the draw”

Magnus looks more like a boxer than anything else in here.

I like how Magnus just giving a honest and sensible answer is "savage"

Refrasing the question without sound offensive.
- Mr Carlsen, during our live broadcast we couldn't find your plan in this endgame. We all thought it was a draw but maybe you have seen more than us. Could you explain your thoughts for the audience?

Before this game, on rest day in world championship 2018, magnus injured his head very badly while playing football & was suffering from severe headaches ( you can see the swelling over his rt eye). But still put tremendous pressure on fabi, proving yet again that "even on his bad day he is still better than most 2700's on their good day " ❤

Interviewer: When did you realize Judit Polgar had no future in broadcasting?
Magnus: I realized it immediately.

A better question would have been “why’d your opponent give you a left jab 🤜 “

For a moment, I thought this was a post-boxing match press conference.

Every single WCC, the dumbest questions get asked. Without fail.

Savage reply. Actually it is a draw before the game starts with just slight tempo advantage to white. This doesnt mean u dont play before starting at all.

That’s why he’s the champion. The real champion! Even if he knows it’s a draw, he’ll almost always look for a chance.

Why does Magnus look like he's just lost a boxing title match?
