The rule of thumb for recess layout spacing is the height of the ceiling divided by 2. You should also use 4” cans and trims in a residence. In today’s LED world the 4” and 2” trims have the punch of a 6”. The 6” trims are for offices with high ceilings and large spaces. It’s the cheaper can so that’s why you see them everywhere. The Lumens are the most important thing in recess lighting. To figure the lumens needed just add two zeros to the height of the ceiling. Ie.. 10 foot ceiling 10 + 00= 1000, 8 foot ceiling 8+00= 800 lumens this works all the way to a 40 foot ceiling. Also, (Nora Lighting) is a great recess company. They have a large selection and a good product. Easy install. Good luck with your job.

Its really good to know the angle or throw of the beam of light 90°, 120° etc. before layout.

What would you recommend when it comes to laying out the wire for recessed lighting? I’m renovating my kitchen and tore everything out to the studs. The recessed lights in using are those 6” wide LED ones that you put in after the drywall is up. I already have the spacing figured out but I’m not sure the best way to lay the wire. Should I just like stuff a bunch up into the spaces between the studs and pull it all out after I cut the holes or should I just run a wire from my switch box to the first light then just fish the rest through the ceiling after I cut the holes? What would you recommend?

I recommend to take a plum-bob and mark exact from center of light location on the floor. Depending on light fixtures style especially with led these days get installed after the drywall is up. Now you can go back and relocate your spots after ceiling paint is up. Floors usually go in last.

Some of these led self contained lights don’t use grounds, but the dimmer switch does. Is it alright to only have the switch grounded since these specific are Feit 10w and they have Waggo connector for black and white wires solely. Thank you

So the lights on an 8 foot wall are four feet apart. How far should the first light be away from the wall???

Excellent video Ben.  Could you explain why you would install the recessed cans "On the edge" or "slightly away from the countertop"?   Instead of being centered over the countertop.   Referring to comments made at 2:45 into the video.  Thanks
