Funny that those that give the harshest advise that you need to negotiate salary and be harsh, and don't back down, earn the least. I'm starting to question that strategy.

The reason the people earning the least amount of money always say you need to fight for that meagre pay is because if you don't THEY WILL PAY YOU EVEN LESS. In Ireland when I interviewed for my first job the manager actually said it's minimum wage but if I could pay you less I would." What the actual fuck.

If you are making decent money then you normally won't have to fight to not be screwed over. If they can pay you decently upfront then they will be comfortable negotiating with you rather than trying to drive you down.

They give really good advice. Advocate for yourself at the interview. I came from a job where we were required to work when there was work and it burnt me out. When I interviewed for my current position, I told my current employer that my life and family will always come first. I got a 52% increase and I haven't stayed late beyond 15 mins so far. Also, coming from a former machinist, corporate accounting and finance is a great career choice 🍻

Go to a temp agency, tell them you want $18 and they’ll find you a job in no time. You will just have to work for a few months as a temp. Also you could use the job offer as leverage at your current job if you make less than that
