We begin the lesson with the 5 key values to represent a set of data in box plots. We can compare 2 box plots numerically according to their centers, or medians, and their spread, or variability. The measures of spread are the range and the interquartile range, the IQR. Box plots with similar variability should have similar boxes and whiskers. We compare their shapes, centers, and spreads. We show what it means to have greater variability of a bottom 50% or top 50%. We show the meaning of the middle half or middle 50%.
