“You’re not going out of your mind. You’re slowly and systematically being driven out of your mind!”

Good ol’ Joseph Cotton gets gaslighting!

Ingrid carries this movie. Without her acting skills it would fall flat. She is gold.

My ex called me telling me harsh things but then months later he denied that he had called! He denied in such a way that a 100% fact became BLURRED for me.I doubted myself! He used to say things like my perceptions were wrong. He had many red flags that I didnt see but this one now seems very dangerous to me.

I’m probably in the minority here, but I like to think these two eventually got together. Not immediately; Paula definitely needs time to heal from all this. But after several years, when she was ready, I think Cameron would be really good for her. He’s clearly noble and brave and makes a huge effort to help her here. He’s the opposite of “Gregory.” And they do a good job working together to capture Gregory. Paula definitely doesn’t deserve to grow old alone. A happy future seems possible for them. To me, at least.

When you see Joseph Cotton in Gaslight and then in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt, one can see what a good actor he really is.

Remember watching this with Renee back in early 1970s and she explained every scene in detail as if she wanted me to remember it word for word.

Maybe one day someone will make an act of kindness and be a Good Samaritan like that guy I've been hoping for a guy like that and praying or a girl like that for someone to make an act of kindness and not deny my reality and not gaslight me. Maybe one day there will be someone that says no to participate in The Gaslight nightmare maybe one day I'll have a Cameron a good samaritan that makes an act of kindness

I prefer the earlier version, with Anton Walbrook and Diana Wynyard. Closer to the play.

Someone upload the scene where she screams ELIZABETH ELIZABETH ELIZABETH!!! I'm looking for sources for a compilation vid of the funniest movie screams. Other notable moments include TEO TEO NO!!!! from All This And Heaven Too, or from The Informer, lol. Anyone know of any other dramatic scenes that are similar?

There is another, better movie version of the original stage play made in 1940. The acting is better and more subtle which makes it all the more believable and scary. Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman hammed it up so much that it is difficult not to laugh in places, which is a shame as this is a desperately serious subject. Hollywood tried to suppress and destroy this earlier British film as they wanted their overwrought, scenery chewing, version to be the only one available. Needless to say the original story had to be 'Hollywoodised' which lessened the impact of the original plot even more.

1940s is so much better than this one. Voices sound so monotone.😂
