Singapore couple have been charged with mischief after disrupting a lion dance competition in July 2023. The incident, which took place in Clementi West Street 2, involved the couple pouring coffee on participants' costumes, including kicking a lion's head.
The parents had a prior record for harassing a nurse and his family during the COVID-19 pandemic. The husband faces charges of mischief and being a public nuisance, while the wife faces similar charges plus two counts of using criminal force on others, including an incident at a coffee shop.
During the disruption, the wife also allegedly hit a man's neck at the community center where the competition was held.
Their 25-year-old son, a performer with the Times Cultural Arts lion dance troupe, was participating in the competition organized by the Singapore Wushu Dragon and Lion Dance Federation.
The disruption arose from miscommunication between the parents and their son, with the parents trying to prevent their son from participating.
If convicted of mischief, the parents could face up to two years in jail each, with potential fines. The wife, if convicted of using criminal force, could be sentenced to up to three months in jail and fined up to S$1,500 for each charge.
