For those wondering, it was the component input that wasn't working (the main input I would be using) and I spent a couple days researching how to potentially fix it. Unfortunately, it was beyond my skills and a simple soldering job.

I never see crt’s on the curb anymore. And thrift stores seem to have caught on that we want them..
Got my 27” trinitron for free on a local buy and sell. The guy couldn’t believe that I wanted it 😂

Putting it back is the most vile and evil thing someone can do 🤣

I just found a 21" CRT lying on the street today. Took half an hour to carry it home on a walk that would typically take ten minutes, but it was absolutely worth it. I've been playing lightgun games all afternoon.

Guy I know works at the local recycling centre (that handles domestic waste) in the electronics section.
Whenever he gets handed CRTs he takes them home, fixes/strips them and sells them on.
He doesn't get on trouble; his supervisor gets a cut.

we find CRTs the same way cat owners find their cats, underneath a tree, in a dumpster etc Lol

I regret getting rid of a CRT I found in a dumpster, I used it to play snes games until I had to move and I never saw it again 😔

Got this huge trinitron crt that even had component support and s-video AND a digital audio port. All for free because some collector was offloading stuff he wasn’t gonna use anymore since he fell out of the hobby. Basically the best way to play my ps2 and wii+ others

I keep the broken ones to learn on, and I keep finding them on the side of the road! It's like a jackpot on trash day

I really like this channel because there's a million people talking about old video games on this platform but very few communicate a sense of place the way you communicate "Upper Midwest". You and SNESDrunk should cross over

I hope newer TVs will adapt the pros of the crt TVs like no input lag, true blacks, the ability to use light guns, etc… Because CRTs are slowly dying and there is very little maintenance support for CRTs…

If it doesn't work and you can't fix it, put it right back :-))

A couple of years ago I got a really nice 27" Panasonic CRT (Tau) with component and S-video inputs from a local listing for only $10!
I have my NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube hooked up to it. Then my Wii, Wii U, and Switch dock are hooked up to my plasma TV right behind it on the wall (my Wii has an hdmi adapter plugged directly into the A/V output).

I got my crt for free from a electronic recycling event, I figured it was gonna end up in a dump so there’s no harm in taking it, it works great, am not disappointed

I found a CRT near my neighbours back in 2019, it had been outside for a few days considering how there was rain, I took it with me then tested it and it worked completely fine with no issues

one time I got a CRT from a thrift store. It had terrible burn in as it was a security monitor, which I could deal with. I got it for a CRT with Svideo in but turns out that I was confused on what kind of port that was, it was something to do with cameras plugging in. So I only had composite. And finally; the CRT could not take 240p signals. And so, I just put it on the curb.

That's too bad one of the inputs didn't work. Oh well. Maybe you'll see another CRT in the wild again (one that works perfectly)?

My grandpa works at a daycare for old people, and because he knew that I love CRTs, he asked his boss and she gave him a Sony multiscan15sf2 and a Philips 14PT1356/01. And I love them, i cant spend a day without turning them on :)
