As a proud owner of both consoles, both had their strengths and weaknesses. The Vita had some poor 1st party support, but the 3rd party games were pretty good overall and you could download old PS1 and PSP games, albeit a limited selection of those libraries. The 3DS had a much more extensive library of games, but it's selection of retro titles you could download was very limited. Both have served me well over the years and do not regret having them.

speaking of ds and psvita I tried to stick a psvita game into the 2ds SD card slot thinking it would work because the game card and the SD card were a similar shape and size damn I was dumb

In terms of homebrewing or emulation they are both pretty much on par, it depends on their own library which you will like more. I have my 3ds since launch and still use it to this day.

I think the 3DS has a stronger library overall, but the Vita has my favorite game of all time on it and was originally the only way to play it (P4 Golden) so in my head they’re balanced out
