When SNL didn't renew Abby Elliott's contract, they hired her to deliver the bad news to herself, and she felt better about it after she explained to herself that it's just the way it is and she did apologize.

In B school there was a girl in my unit also Abby that was exactly like this... she’’d say things like “Y’all, we need to talk about this elephant in the closet. Time to process, cry, move on.” She was smart and dumb at the same time.

Abby is just brilliant here. I have never understood why Lorne gave her the boot. Apparently his thing is original characters; I think that Abby was great in many roles.

Looking back at things like this or her Meryl Streep or the "what is this? game show", she really was one of the underrated ones. She was too often given the role of the "straight" character and I guess audiences never built that big of a connection with her. I mean even in this sketch (which I think is brilliant) it took the audience a while to warm up to it and they still weren't completely engaged. A very solid cast member indeed and I feel she was needed during the Kristen Wiig years to balance her out (not a diss on Wiig who is probably my favorite cast member of all time)
