You forgot the important part:
Other than doing a backup before updating, make sure your backup WORKS before updating.

Yes I would download a CPU. Maybe that would finally end the chip shortage and give us ultimate power and bring prices closer to what these things are made of! Sand!

You wouldn't download an CPU??

There's also a slightly fancier window manager, 'mutter', but it's only used on Pis with 2+ GB of RAM.

One of the other 'small' features that's big for some people is libcamera support so the camera functionality is more standardized and relies less on proprietary code (though some camera-related tools will need updating).

And there *is* a new 64-bit Pi OS build, though it's still beta and I just downloaded it to start testing... and I need to get some sleep since it's quite early here in the US!

And finally, my mention of the C0 vs B0 stepping being the defining bit for whether the 1800 MHz boost happens is incorrect—in fact it's only applied to Raspberry Pi 4 model 4 rev 1.4 boards, with a newer power supply layout that supports the stable overclock and overvoltage.

EDIT: the command in this comment may be incorrect: read the replies to this comment for a better one
You can also test if you have a newer pi without removing
any heat sinks! Just boot the Pi, run 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' and read the 3rd to last "Revision" line, it will start with c0 for newer pis!

I’m happy you mentioned that the Debian/Raspbian codenames are based on various characters from the Toy Story movies.

Wow, it works! I'm running Arch Linux on aarch64, and just by updating rpi-bootloader and rpi-firmware, and adding arm_boost=1 to config.txt manually it actually clocks 1.8GHz now! Thank you so much!

Nice format. I normally enjoy 10-15 minute segments that dive deep enough, but this was just right for this content.

Thank Jeff ! I had moved to running Ubuntu because the ffmpeg with the previous Raspberry Pi OS was so outdated. Going to be interesting to see how well ffmpeg hardware transcoding goes. Fingers crossed. I agree a new 64 bit version would be nice too, but I can work with Ubuntu until Raspberry Pi team get there, not a big problem, just “a nice to have”.

Thanks a lot for the great summary :) I will instantly check my Raspberries if they support the higher clock speed

We still can't download RAM, but can finally download a CPU!

Thanks for the video on Bullseye and the upgraded chips on the newer Pi 4’s Next to Red Shirt Jeff, you’re the coolest geek I know.

Excellent update. Just a note: oveclocking to 2, 000 editing config.txt and running manjaro ARM on it you can get out much much more than staying with Rasp oS. On my second RPI 4b 8G I have Freebsd ARM on it just to run a "real" server side oS on it. The overall experience is definitely more "reastic" than running Rasp oS.

Thanks. Just checked and I got the faster one. Would never have known.

I bought my pi4 around October 2020. It's a C0 cpu model. Thanks for the info!

That's cool and all but my CM4 has been running at 2.2GHz since the day I bought it. Haven't tried any higher yet but I'm sure it could handle even more as max temps are still only in the high 60's under stress tests.

If I can add a soft core to a FPGA project without paying crazy licensing fees, then yes I would download a CPU.

Pi4b cpu revision d08 bought a week ago in tokyo moved up to 1800Mhz from 1500Mhz after installing Pi-OS ARM64 new version. runs great with a vented aluminum case with fins and no fan.
